Murray knocked out of doubles in Toronto

By Mark Sanger on August 10, 2010, 09:53 AM
Andy Murray and Ross Hutchins lost their first round doubles match at the Rogers Cup on Monday to Philipp Kohlschreiber and Gael Monfils.

The British duo never appeared comfortable against the German and world number 18 Monfils and went down 6-3 6-2.

Murray, who will now focus on defending his singles title at the Canadian event, is scheduled to play his first singles match on Wednesday.

Ross should get himself a regular partner, not Andy, he's starting to go down the rankings.

He has got a regular partner, Jordan Kerr, though they haven't got a high enough ranking to get into the Master 1000 events.

I forgot about Jordan, I only really follow the doubles on here and it's always Andy that's playing with him.  I don't know how the rankings for doubles works.  w00t

It seems to me that Andy uses the "old pals act". Namely when he wants a little practice and when Ross is available he teams up with him.

Rather selfish of Andy and it does not do Ross's career any favours.

Give it a rest, Ross Hutchins is not a sheep - if he wanted to play with someone else, he would.

Ross has also benefited a lot from Andy, through hitting and sharing coaching/expertise.

Andy Murray can do no right to some people on this forum.

I am suitably rebuked. My head is hanging down in shame.

Believe it or not, I desperately want Andy to be the successful player he needs to be. My point (badly expressed) was if Andy wishes to play doubles, he should practise with a regular partner and not just from time to time with Ross, his closest friend.

I think this is a win win situation.

Ross would not have qualified playing with a regular partner so this was an opportunity (albeit small) for him to earn mega points and to watch and learn from the best.  This is a great way for him to improve and to expand his tennis awareness / repertoire of what is possible.

Andy on the other hand gets much needed practice including net play prior to his 2nd round match as he got a bye in the 1st round.
