Sparkle:  I agree that to end up as an alternate would be a brilliant achievement and I'm sure something that wouldn't have been in his wildest imagination at the start of the year.  But as I'll be there I'd love to see one Murray play even if I can't see his younger bro.  So still keeping my fingers crossed that either they make it or another pair have to drop out.

If he's alternate, you should be there for practice sessions (at least), so you'll hopefully see him.

It was fun while it lasted, but sadly hopes of J & J qualifying for the WTF have faded away with their loss today to Gonzalez & Lipsky (currently 12th in the race).

But as Russell Fuller says: Fabulous effort by Jamie & John who weren't eligible to play a single Masters 1000 or ATP 500 tournament before last month.

Wishing Jamie & John a very successful 2014, and hope to see them at the O2 next year!

Too bad for the double J's. Very good season for them, and I also see them on the up.

I hope Andy's success has spurned Jamie on.

Very true Elena.  They've still got a chance of being the stand-bys, but regardless, they have to be pleased with their overall season.

I can't help but think that the last month or so was all a bit much.  Probably quite tired, and sudden realisation of what they might achieve and the inevitable weight of a nation, can't have helped.

How come?

J & J are 10th in the race at the moment - so the only way they could go to O2 is if the alternates decided not to go - as happened last year I think. They could be pushed lower as well if the teams below them get to the SF.

Yep.

Usually there's only one alternate team in the doubles, whereas for singles it is usually two players.

I see, thanks.  I thought there were two alternates.  I realised that being 10th at the moment wasn't secure, but thought they had a reasonable chance of hanging in that position.

The doubles race to London is finally over, with Mirnyi & Tecau (in 9th place) losing to Peya & Soares, so failing to grab the last place. The Poles, Fyrstenberg/Matkowski have the 8th place.

Jamie & John have remained in 10th place though, which is a brilliant end to the year. Next year they should be able to play bigger tournaments for more points.
