Andy Murray's mum Judy in identity slip-up
ANDY Murray’s mother says she regretted trying to hide her identity after a stranger recognised her.

By Laura Neil/Published 22nd July 2013

Judy Murray found out she's not to everybody's liking after an encounter in a spa
Judy Murray, 53, told the woman she was not the Wimbledon champion’s mum, only to receive a rude reply.

The tennis coach, who used to train her son, revealed the faux pas on Twitter, saying: “Woman in spa: ‘R u whassisnames mum?’

“Me: ‘No I just look like her.’ Her: ‘That’s good. I can’t stand her.’ Too good. Smile

“The tennis coach, who used to train her son, revealed the faux pas on Twitter, saying: “Woman in spa: ‘R u whassisnames mum?’”
Followers saw the funny side, with Embarrassing Bodies presenter James Logan, 32, tweeting: “Hehe did you punch her?!”

While follower Janey Godley advised: “Make up a big back story, say ‘Actually am her twin, but she denies me in the press, it was me that took Andy to tennis’”.

Another follower added: “Well the rest of us think you’re great, so take that, woman in spa!”

Tennis Stories
Tennis: Mother of British no.1 Tennis player Andy Murray, who become first British player to win Wimbledon Tennis Championship in 77 years, Judy Murray went to St Andrews Aquarium to see the pengiun which is named after her.

There are four penguins which are named after Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, his mother Judy Murray, his girlfriend Kim Sears and his grand mother Shirley.

Judy was in the Fife town for the Women’s British Open and tweeted about her visit.

She said: "Coming to visit my doppelganger on Thursday morning…. Hoping to p.p.p.pick one up!"

Manager John Mace said: "We are thrilled that Judy came along to the Aquarium today to visit our penguins and to meet the feathery Judy face to, er, beak.

"We loved that we were able to celebrate Andy Murray’s Wimbledon win with Elspeth’s suggestion of naming them Andy, Kim, Judy and Shirley – everyone thinks it really suits them."

Judys take on Andy's recent form

TELL Andy Murray winning Wimbledon has blunted his game and you’ll have his mother to answer to.

Since the passion and glory of SW19 Judy Murray has seen her son lose to Ernests Gulbis in Montreal then crash in straight sets against Tomas Berdych in Cincinnati.

But as Murray prepares to defend a Grand Slam title for the first time in the US Open, mum Judy insists he has lost none of his edge. In fact, she reckons he’s probably sharper than ever.

She said: “People might insist it’s natural that there would be a drop after winning Wimbledon but it’s more likely to send Andy the other way – he’ll have loved it so much he’ll want to do more.

“You can’t win every week and he’d probably have preferred a couple more matches going into the US Open but he went into Wimbledon with just four matches under his belt after missing the French Open.

“He’s got a week to prepare so I wouldn’t worry too much. It’s a very tough thing to retain the US Open and all I can say is he’s a contender and will be out there doing his best.”

It’s 10 years since Murray first played in New York. He, brother Jamie and Jamie Baker made an all-Scottish assault on the junior title. It failed but in 2004 Murray returned and bagged the trophy.

It was the start of a love affair with Flushing Meadows which last year climaxed in an epic five-set victory over Novak Djokovic in the final.

As she prepares to fly out on Saturday, Judy said: “I’ve been going to the US Open for a number of years but this is a new experience for Andy, going back as defending champion. He loves the US Open. He loves the atmosphere, New York is such a vibrant city and Flushing Meadows is so lively. The night matches are special.

“There is huge crowd engagement, a lot of fun for the fans and a lot of noise and music. It’s quite different from all the other tournaments.

“Andy has always had really great support in America and that helps too. There’s a huge positivity about the sports people in that country and he thrives on it.”

Judy was speaking at Barrhead Community Tennis Club where she took part in the Great British Tennis Weekend, offering people the chance to enjoy the sport for free with coaches on hand to help out.
She said: “It’s all about encouraging the councils to open up the courts free of charge so kids can come down and have a go.”
