Andy in Monte Carlo
« on: April 03, 2009, 12:47 PM »
Probably a bit early to start this post (as Andy is at the semis at Miami) but here is the list of competitors.
1 Nadal, Rafael (ESP)
3 Djokovic, Novak (SRB)
4 Murray, Andy (GBR)
5 Davydenko, Nikolay (RUS)
6 del Potro, Juan Martin (ARG)
8 Simon, Gilles (FRA)
9 Gael Monfils (FRA)
10 Verdasco, Fernando (ESP)
12 Ferrer, David (ESP)
14 Nalbandian, David (ARG)
15 Robredo, Tommy (ESP)
16 Wawrinka, Stanislas (SUI)
18 Stepanek, Radek (CZE)
19 Cilic, Marin (CRO)
21 Almagro, Nicolas (ESP)
22 Berdych, Tomas (CZE)
23 Andreev, Igor (RUS)
24 Gasquet, Richard (FRA)
25 Safin, Marat (RUS)
26 Soderling, Robin (SWE)
28 Karlovic, Ivo (CRO)
29 Ancic, Mario (CRO)
30 Schuettler, Rainer (GER)
32 Kiefer, Nicolas (GER)
33 Mathieu, Paul-Henri (FRA)
34 Lopez, Feliciano (ESP)
35 Montanes, Albert (ESP)
36 Kohlschreiber, Philipp (GER)
37 Hanescu, Victor (ROM)
38 Kunitysn, Igor (RUS)
39 Seppi, Andreas (ITA)
40 Bolelli, Simone (ITA)
41 Troicki, Viktor (SRB)
42 Acasuso, José (ARG)
43 Gulbis, Ernests (LAT)
44 Benneteau, Julien (FRA)
46 Tipsarevic, Janko (SRB)
47 Granollers, Marcel (ESP)
48 Chardy, Jeremy (FRA)
50 Serra, Florent (FRA)
52 Gicquel, Marc (FRA)
53 Rochus, Christophe (BEL)
54 Vassallo Arguello, Martin (ARG)
** Chela, Juan Ignacio (ARG)
(Rankings are those at 9th March '09)
Intriguing that Federer, Roddick, Tsonga, Blake, Golzalez, Fish and Tursunov are missing - among others. Davydenko is back though.
This tournament (though also "1000") is not compulsary apparently.

Federer is going to see a drop in points as would have defended runner-up here. Will be awesome if Andy can get the No. 3 spot this weekend and make himself 2nd seed at a Masters!

Wouldn't surprise me. Jamie has no partner and Andy would want to play into the clay.

I don't think Jamie is ranked high enough to get a DA now, so needs Andy to get him in too the main draw

Andy and Jamie are first on the alternates list so they probably get in.

To be honest, I normally switch off a bit during the clay court season. I'm really looking forward to it this year though - Andy is defending so few points that he can hardly fail to improve. Having Corretja on board should help too, so it should be an interesting couple of months

Novak is defending a semi-final place last year (450 points) whilst Andy got as far as the last 16 (150 points).
So provided Andy stays in to the same stage as Novak, he WILL be number 3.
If Fed is not in he loses 700 points for a Finalist spot last year which makes AM closer to second spot.

Looking for a QF here to catch Nole.
In any case, Nole is defending Rome, it's a matter of time.
