In today's Daily Star p11 there is a huge headline ANDY'S BORING AND UGLY BUT GREAT AT TENNIS followed by the sub-head 'Cash's backhanded compliment'.  The article is as follows:

Tennis legend Pat Cash bizarrely laid into 'boring' Brit hero Andy Murray yesterday claiming he's 'never going to be eye candy'.  The Aussie launched his attack just before the Scot opened his Wimbledon campaign on Centre Court on the second day of the tournament.  Cash, 44, who won the Men's Singles title at Wimbledon in 1987, branded Murray - who dates beauty Kim Sears, 21 - ugly.  And he said that he had 'the most boring voice in the planet'.  But he did manage one compliment before Murray, 22, set out for his big game by saying he 'had something special' on the court.  Cash said: 'He has the most boring, monotone voice in the history of the planet.  It's like a mantra.  It almost puts you to sleep.  He's never going to be eye candy.  He's the Wayne Rooney type - not the biggest personality but sh## can he play!'  But Cash predicted: 'Murray will win a Grand Slam.  In fact I think he will win numerous Grand Slams.  It's just a matter of time.'

Yesterday Murraymania hit fever pitch as thousands of thrilled fans saw Murray beat 29 year old unseeded American Robert Kendrick 7-5, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.  After his win Murray returned service to Cash saying: 'I don't really care to be honest.  I let my tennis do the talking, I think that's exciting.  I'm only worried about my tennis.'

There's a great pic of Andy looking drop-dead-gorgeous in his FP kit alongside Cash's green-eyed comments.  Andy ugly?  Never going to be eye candy?  Wayne Rooney type?  Not the biggest personality?  As the DS observed, very bizarre indeed.  Especially coming from the oldest swinger in town.   Whistle

I agree with his comments, Murray isn't really eye candy and he does have a very boring monotone voice... but more importantly, who cares? He's an awesome player Smile

Doubt Andy gives much of a sh*t what Cash thinks when he's giving Kim the Full Three Minutes.

Hewitt writes off Roddick's chances against Murray .

Former champion Lleyton Hewitt has backed Britain's Andy Murray to overcome Andy Roddick in Friday's Wimbledon semi-finals.

Hewitt believes Murray is more than a match for the big-serving American and has improved since he defeated Roddick in straight sets in the third round here in 2006.

The feisty Australian also hinted that Roddick's game has hardly altered in the intervening three years.

"I think it's going to be a tough one for Roddick to win. When I've seen Andy Murray at his best, I think he matches up extremely well against Roddick," said Hewitt who lost a five-set thriller to Roddick in the quarter-finals on Wednesday

."A couple years ago I saw them play here because they were in my section, and Murray took care of him convincingly. Murray's a lot better player now than he was then. Roddick's going to have to play a helluva match to beat him."

Roddick is a two-time runner-up at Wimbledon and is desperate to add to his one Grand Slam title so far, the 2003 US Open.

However, Hewitt believes that the American's game hasn't adapted enough for the challenges ahead.

His strengths are still the same. His slight weaknesses are still pretty much the same, as well," added the 2002 Wimbledon champion.

"He's maybe trying to stand up in the court a little bit more than he was a couple of years ago, especially returning serve and not trying to get dictated too much behind the baseline.

"He mixes it up well. When you've got a serve like he has he can take a few chances, a few risks on his opponent's service game."

Roddick refused to get drawn into a slanging match with Hewitt over his semi-final chances.

"That's fine," he replied when told of the Australian's opinion. "I'm not here to make predictions."

Andy Murray realises he needs to bring his A-game to the grand slams.  After 15 majors without a title the Scot knows his honeymoon period is over.
