Fascinating interview.  Thanks Linda.  I have great admiration for Delpo.  I felt very sorry for him when he was struck down by serious injury and out for nearly a year just at the very time his career was really taking off, but he's shown tremendous guts and dedication to get back to where he is now.  I really would like to see him make the top five.  Also it was good to hear that the Top Four, especially Federer, had constantly been in touch with him offering their encouragement.

I did like this bit about Andy though and thankfully it's turned out to be true.  Only one Slam admittedly, but I'm sure others will follow.

"It was his [Delpo's] first Grand Slam final, and the way he dealt with the pressure rather raises the question of why Murray, in his first Grand Slam final, on the same court against the same opponent the previous year, had crumbled. "I don't know. It's very difficult for Murray, because he is the only player from your country. He's a really nice player. For me, he will win Grand Slams. He has everything. He can beat Nadal, Federer, Djokovic on all surfaces. I have never beaten Djokovic. But to win, first you have to know how to lose. Maybe he needs to lose more finals to win one."

I admit I don't watch every Del Potro match but I have seen him cross himself after losing matches.  I think we just miss it sometimes because the camera tends to focus on the winner. I've seen him do it live as well.

I remember Agassi saying the same thing about Baghdatis crossing himself.  He felt it was rude.

I honestly do not understand why people, or other players, who think that players crossing themselves is in any way rude.  I can only assume that they're some kind of religious bigots.

Why would my god be helping you beat me? I think that was how Agassi saw it. It's been a while since I read the exact quote but that is pretty much what he said.

I can't say it bothers me to be honest. Each to their own.

I think that shows a lack of understanding and/or respect for other people's faith.  I always thought Agassi would be one of the more tolerant players, but he may have been caught off guard.

Totally agree with you Aileen. I can't see why it should bother those who don't believe in God, surely for them it's a meaningless action, and for those who believe in God, whether RC or not they will understand and respect the person or player who does.

Tolerant as in open minded, and not quick to judge someone else's lifestyle choices rather than just saying nice things. 

I can't say I paid a huge amount of attention to what he said back in the day, but between the hair, the whole rebel vibe, plus the drugs thing, I'd expect him to be a bit more hippy about it.

All his remarks about his fellow player Sampras, even the recent ones, are quite derogatory. There was a guy at CNN who used to keep track of things as far as Agassi was concerned – just like we do with Federer. He could have given a list of things Agassi said over the period of his career, which by no means were, flattering to his fellow players. Federer comes off as a Saint compared to Agassi. Even in his book, Agassi didn’t miss the opportunity to insult Sampras while Sampras spoke nothing but good things about Andre.

Sorry, I wasn't doubting you, and don't particularly want to get into a debate about whether or not Agassi is a good guy.  Just explaining my previous point, which was that Agassi was being judgemental as is anyone else who complains about another person's religious quirks.

Agassi is a bit too judgmental and I guess that was the point I was making. Anyway, you are right. It's not worth discussing or worth fighting for.
