Acapulco 500 2014 R1: Andy Murray vs Pablo Andujar

Quote

Andy opens his account in Acapulco against the Spanish special entrant Pablo Andujar, who has just come off a semi final showing in Rio where he was close to knocking off Rafael Nadal. These two players have no history on the main tour, but they have played once in a futures event in Spain, back in 2005, where Andy prevailed in 3 sets.

Andujar is currently ranked 43 in the world, and has won two titles in his career on his preferred surface of clay.

hmm not an easy first round match for Andy.  Do we know yet when he'll be playing it as they still seem to have only Sunday's oop up?

Nope, Sunday's play in Acapulco has just begun so its highly likely it will be a few hours before we know.

I'm guessing Tuesday  given Andujar has to get there and adjust to change of surface.  I have a feeling the final is Saturday so presumably first round matches will need to be finished Tuesday or have I got that wrong?

I watched Andujar,s match against Nadal. He played well but failed to capitalize on I think 13 break points.
Also, rafas unforced error count was I think 33.

Andujar's only won 19 matches on hardcourts in his career, so I think Andy should be ok here. He'll have to be careful though - Andujar was really hammering Nadal's second serve yesterday.

Andy in 2.

Andujar is weak on hard courts, he is transitioning from clay to hard courts, he will probably be tired and will have had little practice on the surface.

Andujar will no doubt come out swinging, but I'd be surprised if he could maintain it, so long as Andy plays a solid game.

Good Luck Andy!!

I can't see Andujar being very fresh. He's going to have to make a quick transition from the clay too. Getting close to beating Nadal could give him confidence, but the fact that he didn't do it could knock the wind out of his sails.

Andy in two.

Researching the pictures for the H2H shows that Andujar is a bit of a clay courter (won his 2 titles in Morocco) though has progressed through a few rounds on hard courts too.

Interestingly enough, it was on clay that Andy won their only encounter. Think

 Anyhow, cmonandy Very Happy
