Andy "Braveheart" Murray

AM - Tough Times « on: August 16, 2014, 08:22 AM »

Now I'll probably attract some "slatings" by writing this but am going to anyway!  Things are tough for AM right now and it's hard watching him not able to get himself back into the zone, it's disappointing watching him lose matches that we are all so desperate to see him win.  But to me and this is not blind optimism, misplaced loyalty or adopting a rose tinted glasses view - as long as Andy Murray has a tennis racket in his hand I will continue to support him.  Something is wrong right now but only he and his team can fix it.  The shots are still there, the flashes of genius are still there, the desire and effort are still there but he's struggling and needs to find his way again.  My interpretation of being a fan is that you don't give up when things get rough, yep it's horrible right now but AM has provided so many moments of sheer pleasure and unexpected achievements - winning his first slam when so many doubted it, winning Wimbledon (the pinnacle of tennis achievement) standing on the podium in pole position at the Olympics so me personally, I think he is worth supporting.
Hopefully he will turn things around and get back to the top, it's hard to watch him struggle because we all want him to do it but I bet the disappointment we feel is nothing to what he's feeling.
Those of us that have been here for a while will remember to post AO slumps when it was so bleak and awful waiting for him to come out of that and he did emerge but one thing struck me during that time the threads on here were good places to come, there was good discussion and exchange of views along with humour, we all consoled each other etc.  Frankly the threads now (not all of them but particularly the match threads are horrible) - there are a handful of posters who take it as a personal slight on them that AM is losing, well news alert he's NOT!  I am going to watch the USO and see what happens, I think that will be the true test as we know how much store Andy sets by the GS's.  However, I don't think I will watch them whilst on a match thread as it's just not worth the angst - there are so many good posters that don't come near now and I think that is such a shame.
I will continue to support Andy Murray because to me he will always be the wee boy from a wee place in Scotland that stepped on the big stage and shocked everyone with his natural ability but he is human and like everyone when you've been through up's and downs it affects your performance and you have to work it out and work hard to get back in sync.
So hopefully at the USO he will get himself back on track but there are enough stresses and strains in real life without adding to them by reading match threads on here, I got told the other day on the match thread that my posts cause problems because I only come on to have a go at negative posters - which I don't I come on to support Andy Murray and speak to like minded folks but that kind of made me realise watch the matches and enjoy them without hassle !!!  It's such a shame because I can still remember how everyone stuck together during similar times before but it's a different place now.

But anyway Andy Murray I truly believe you will be back because your just too damned good not to - it's just a matter of time.  #USOreturn.

Nice post MM. I agree with you with the match threads, I normally only come on now to post my support for Andy at start of match then again at end to give my view on match but its very easy to get caught up in it and try to defend Andy from some of the bile from some people. I agree that its a shame because most times im watching his matches on my own so it used to be good conversing with like minded folk but not anymore. Back to Andy himself, I really dont know what to say anymore,  but I hope he can turn things around and hopefully come slam time in a few weeks over 5 sets we will see some better results Frown I do really feel for him right now....hope Kim is giving him lots of  hug he seems 100% fit and healthy again so its apparent its something going on between the ears that needs fixing.  Like you though I shall continue watching and supporting no matter what. Yes, tough times.

I guess most people's fear is that he may not get back to the top of the game, and Andy has said that if he doesn't feel he can compete for titles then he wont hang around.

But worth remembering that within the last three months he has made a slam semi and a quarter. If he were a young player we would be excited by the current situation rather than gloomy.

A decent USO would help a lot.

Super post MM and I too remember the match thread days that used to be. I too will support him as long as he holds a racquet, suffer as we may. I too don't come on here as much as I used to for precisely the same reason. Clydey too seems to give MW a wide berth but I know he is as big a supporter as ever. Aileen, Connor, Angie and a good few more make it worth while. Don't stay away too long MM, it's nice to see you back. hug

Brilliant post MM.  I am sure you mirror all the feelings we true fans of Andy have.  I have never expected him to come back this year but I am also sure he will be back as you could not possibly put that talent down.  We are forgetting how many sportsmen and women have gone through similar problems and have back again.  We are expecting too much too soon.  I also am not coming on the match threads anymore until they are finished as the negative posters spoil it for me.  i came on here originally because everyone seemed to be a true fan but that has changed over the last year.

Tough times indeed MM and tougher for Andy than for any of us.     We know this is when the nasties come out of the woodwork but we have to stick with Andy and swat away the annoying midges.    Andy will be back.    He IS STILL WORKING ON HIS GAME and adjustments take time to bed in.    His serve is so erratic that I think there are changes going on there but I can't spot it.   Second serve a bit faster from time to time and the foot faults which never happened before seem to indicate changes afoot (sorry about that).     A bit down today but as much of an Andy fan as ever.

 2005 to...infinity and beyond.

Don't think he will ever reach the standard of a few years ago. Maybe he will have a Hewitt like slide until he gives up the hope of winning Grand Slams, or keep a high standard but be continuously be knocked out in the 4th round or QF by the very top seeds.

Seems to me all the old characteristics in tight moments have gone and he struggles to raise his game now.

I pray i'm wrong but .................................

Well said Murraymagic!! One of the reasons I stopped looking at this forum was because of the negativity from so called Andy fans. I looked last night after the match as I knew it would be a low point and nothing much has changed except the same people who have supported Andy through highs & lows.

I admit, I am one of Andy's harshest critics during a match and still have a mump & a moan the next day but then its forgotten!!

Remember the highs, Andy fans because they don't get much higher!! I have no doubt he will be back. Maybe not this year but watch out next year!!!

Andy just needs to stay near the top 10 this year. Delpo's first injury took him a year to start getting back. Unfortunately for Delpo he could be out for a year on his second injury. At one time in my book he was one of the top five, with Andy, Nole, Fed and Rafa. I look forward to next season when both Andy and Jaun MD return to their rightful place in the top five!

Me too. I'm sick of the rubbiish that is being posted about Andy. You would think he has had a major disaster in his life. Give the guy a chance it seem everyone is forgetting all the good things he has done in the recent pass. Some people on this site should give themselves a shake and stop posting drivel.
