Beijing R2: Murray vs Cuevas

Reply

well I can see why they would put Nole and Rafa on the stadium.   as many Chinese fans as Andy appears to have.

That's because my intellectual son is living, working and studying in China. Only joking, but he is an Andy fan and will be trying to watch some of his matches. If he does I'll ask him to take some pictures.

I think Andy did well today. Confident and solid play, even though the opponent was not in the top echelons, there were some good rallies and sweet shots.

Cilic will be another thing, as we know.

Hmm. Have seen Mo make a bad call against Andy, so not as keen as I was Think

BBH, wasn't that the time when Lahyani considered that Djokovic had done nothing wrong when he stole a point against Andy by leaning over the net to score a winning point?

no that wasn't Lahyani OSS.    I have a vague memory of Mo making a bad call against Andy but still love the guy as he's usually the first to put up his hands when he has made a bad call and realises it (though not that day I guess)

Btw I know there have been criticisms of match reports written by people who have not seen the match, but I don't think people were saying that nothing should go up.  It would have been nice to have had a brief factual statement of Andy's decisive win over Cuevas on our front page.  This isn't a criticism as I know people do a great job getting match reports out when I'm sure they are busy but just an observation in the hope that MW's great record of match reports can be maintained.

Here's the report in the Indie, which I've also posted on news articles as relevant to Asian swing as a whole.  I note Andy took a private jet to Beijing.  I wouldn't usually approve given the environmental implications but in the circumstances it could have made the difference between winning and losing his next match so glad he did. Now I wonder if he gave Tommy a lift like he did JWT once?    Whistle   http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/tennis/china-open-2014-andy-murray-continues-recent-run-of-form-by-reaching-quarterfinals-9769912.html

Yep, I wouldn't get too precious about that. It was clearly a professional decision. After all Andy takes the Eurostar to Paris, and it's not as if he owns a private jet like certain other players!

It's the least he could do after all of those match points! hug

It probably was a savings for Andy to take a private jet, once he factored in the excess luggage penalty for the trophy. Whistle

And unlike certain other players, Andy elects to remain a resident in the UK, thus paying his FULL appropriate taxes.

OSS v good point.  It seems like ALL the French players live in Switzerland and the great patriot Nole lives in Monaco.  Enough said.
And love the excess luggage point sparkle!

Not wanting to make it a big deal, but would be interesting to know how much time Andy spends in UK each year.
