Bloody hell, don't know why such fuss is being made over a nickname.

If people are going to get this worked up over it I'll just leave the forum.

A tradesman or tradesperson is a skilled manual worker in a particular trade or craft.

Andy is skilled, and he is a manual worker, he isn't a machine lol.

His Trade is Tennis.

He is a hard worker, who constructs points perfectly, and gets the job done no matter how hard the job is.

Very well said, I agree that the name suits him very well.

I agree with the first bit but would really like you to stay on MW. Smile

Nah, we're  just bored - not just no Andy no tennis. It's the silly season.
Exactly Westie - and now there isn't even the Dream Cup to look forward to.

Stop yer whining and deal with the nickname. Tar.

I'll treat that remark with the contempt it deserves.  It was directed at prod in any case and was supposed to be conciliatory.  Tough if you're unable to see that.

Aye, but  all professional (male)  players are tradesmen in that sense.  So its not a particularly useful or distinctive moniker.

I did not want to get involved in this discussion, but I dont like the term tradesman either. Another name for a tradesman is a journeyman which is often used in boxing to describe a professional who makes a living from the sport occasionally testing new upcoming hopefuls but will never break into the top class, champion level.

Therefore it is not the nickname to describe Andy Murray!

Er - the whole point about nicknames is they are created by other people. Gobshite is a good one.
