Andy's Radio 5 interview with Colin Murray
« on: April 21, 2012, 04:19 PM »
Someone posted about this, but I'm not sure where!
There's a bit of tennis talk with Jonathon Overend at 1.14.53, then Andy on at 1.18.30.

'twas on the Monte Carlo thread. Listened to it at the time (after waiting about half an hour!) but really enjoyed it. Colin Murray is clearly a fan of his so was nice to listen to. Groves and Nevin's uninformed criticism after was quite annoying though.
I could write up a summary if anyone wanted a quick glance at what they talked about, but I imagine most people would prefer to listen! Andy sounded really relaxed.

I'd like to be impartial, but I can't!

I carefully recorded it via Sky+ as I was out friday night only to find I'd recorded sports extra by mistake.
Got it on at present but still haven't got to Andy's interview so may have to come back to it as want to go and watch the final .
Does anyone know if there's some way of fast forwarding? I'd got to about 55 mins via the iplayer but don't want to have to play it all again before getting to the tennis section, if possible.

Ruthie - just drag the slider at the bottom through to the timing you want! Starts around 1 hr 15 mins in.

Thanks Elena. As it happened I went back to iplayer and found it started where I'd left off but thanks for the tip for the future.
Really enjoyed the interview. I realise it was an easy one for Andy as Colin Murray had declared himself a fan but it was good to hear him sounding so relaxed and dealing well with a range of questions as well as being willing to laugh at himself and also rib Colin M for his cardigan when they were talking about dress sense. To any objective person surely he must have come across really well? And it was clear that CM was impressed.
One point Andy made jokingly - that Lendl doesn't come cheap - reminded me of someone who posted on MW during the 2011 post-AO slump suggesting that Andy was only in it for the money and now that he'd made a lot would be happy just to coast without winning a GS. I didn't believe it at the time but the fact that Andy chose to appoint a coach such as Lendl shows just how wrong that person was.
The other thing to note, and I think Aileen has said the same on a different thread earlier, is how Andy's voice is much more modulated now than it used to be. As he himself acknowledged, he used to have the most boring monotone voice. I'd noticed that it had been improving but it was very clear today.
