Andy's wit and wisdom

Here's my contribution.

“It makes me want to throw up! It’s disgusting. I hope she’ll still be supporting me though!” Murray gives his thoughts on his mother’s affection for Feliciano Lopez, before he played the Spaniard at Wimbledon in 2011.

Andy Murray is asked by a Spanish radio reporter what it is like being a Sir. "I'm not a Sir, I am a Doctor though"

Andy's tweet from Hopman Cup 2015 - 44.5 degrees here in Perth today..sounds hot but I'm used to it though having grown up in Dunblane where January conditions are very similar

Following a hard fought 3 set win against Feliciano Lopez in the first round of the Mubadalla Championship in January 2015, and with an upcoming match agains Nadal, followed by a potential final with Djokovic; Andy's ironic comment to the Press was "hopefully from now on the matches will be easier".  In fact, he trounced Nadal in two sets, and Djokovic capitulated by default due to illness, handing Andy his first trophy of 2015.

Andy on receiving the award of  BBC SPOTY 2015 :

a friend actually sent me a message the other day with an article from a newspaper which said Andy Murray is duller than a weekend in Worthing, which I thought was a bit harsh - on Worthing."

Andy after beating Jo-Wifred Tsonga  at Wimbledon QF 2016 7-5 (12-10) 6-1 3-6 4-6 6-1 :

Journalist : "You haven't lost a set since the beginning of the tournament. What happened in the 3rd and 4th sets ?"
Andy, after a pause and a look : "Tsonga's a pretty good player!"

I've just heard this one in another post-match interview -

Female journalist:  We need a new PM, a new England football manager, a new Top Gear presenter, and Wales are out, so what does it feel like to be the nation's last hope?

Andy after a pause - surprised smile - laughter from the assembled press: "It's not that bad, is it?"

Yes, I thought that was especially brilliant - particularly as Andy's a proud Scot!

yes that riposte from Andy to that female journalist made a perfect end to my evening although I do think  the appointment of a new PM is slightly more important than who gets the presenting job in Top Gear!
