Okay, I've stopped laughing about the knee jerk comment now.
I've studied the draw Andy has, and I have to say it could be worse, assuming he is fit to play. Wouldn't he have had to declare by now if he wasn't?
I've looked at the head to heads. Andy leads Querrey 4-1. The one was ages ago. Andy leads Melzer 5-0. I mean, seriously. Federer couldn't beat Andy at the Olympics, or Djokovic for that matter. Do we really think Melzer is going to do it all of a sudden?
Murray leads Roddick (I thought I'd confuse everyone by mentioning too many Andy's lol) 8-3. Murray won the last two, one on hard, the other the brilliant Queen's semi from last year. Roddick could pull a good day I suppose, it has been known, but I'd be surprised.
Andy leads Del Potro 5-1. This one could be interesting in that it might say more about where Del Potro is than Andy. Assuming Andy is fit I think he'll get through, but it could be an interesting one. I know Del Potro has played well lately, but I think he's a bit up and down. I fancy Andy for it if he is fit and up for it. I never like to think of a player tanking, but if Andy decides to let a match go, to focus on the USO, it could be this one to my mind. With a head to head like that I'm not sure a loss would be hugely important, except the commentators would go on about Del Potro for a bit. Do we care? Nope! The other match Andy could let go I suppose is the Roddick one.
The big question is Djokovic. The head to head is 8-6 in Djokovic's favour. However, Andy has won two of the last three. I know even without looking that those are the semi in Dubai this year on hard, and the Olympic semi, and they were both in straights. Again, surprisingly enough, this one could say more about Djokovic than Andy. Would he want to play Andy so soon after the Olympics?
Looking at the draw, I must admit I'd quite like Andy to play, but only if he is fit. I don't want him taking silly chances with the USO so close, that has to be the priority, but if he is fit this really isn't a bad draw on the face of it.
As much as I'd like Andy to win another title, I have to say that the trophy for Cincy is the most revolting in sport. It looks like something your granny would give you as a house-warming present! Isn't the runner up trophy in Cincy a ceramic chicken as well? That rings a bell from last year. Someone clearly has a sense of humour LOL.
