Andy at New Rogers Cup « on: August 05, 2011, 04:00 AM »

For those who don't already know, this year Toronto and Montreal will each be hosting tournaments at the same time instead of over back-to-back weeks, hence the name New Rogers Cup.

It's part of a WTA Tour and ATP Tour initiative for a handful of tournaments this season, where men's and women's draws will be combined into one event. The Rogers Cup is the only event that is using a "virtual combined" format with matches being played over a week in two different cities.

The new format will allow fans in one venue to view matches from the other on television screens set up at both stadium sites, and the TV broadcast will bounce between cities to feature matches from both tournaments.

Inevitably this innovation has provoked criticism from certain quarters but the organisers, whilst admitting there could be some teething troubles, are confident that the parallel event will be a success.

The draws will take place this afternoon (Friday).

According to yesterday's Herald, Andy has finished his two week training block in Miami and should now be in Montreal.  Once again he will be partnering brother Jamie in the doubles.

I'm looking forward to watching Andy, however not looking forward to having to put up with Barry Cowan. Last night I was going to watch the Tennis on Sky last night and who should come up talking about the next few Tournaments leading to the American Slam. I ended up shouting at my TV in response to that stupid little twit. I wish Sky would get rid of him, he spoils the tennis matches for me. The other day I was watching a recording of the Masters at Shanghai 2010. It was funny listening to Greg and Barry before the match both giving reasons why Federer was going to win, and then at the end when they had to eat their words. perhaps I will get pleasure watching Barry squirming when Andy wins. Does Barry annoy any other MW members?

Michelle you took the words out of my mouth.  What really irritated me was when he said it was disrespectful to the top 3 to bracket Andy with them given they are serial grand slam winners.  OK he has a point but odd isn't it how many of the commentators people have been posting links to do talk about the top 4 and are willing to bracket Andy with the other 3 despite his not having won a slam.  It was the sanctimonious way he said it which got up my nose as much as anything.  And he always has this little smirk.  I wish we didn't have to watch so many 2nd rate former players as commentors on TV.   doh
Anyway more importantly, can't wait to see Andy playing again.  It would be so WONDERFUL if he won the cup for the 3rd time running.  cmon yeah
Oh and Aileen I hadn't realised they'd changed the format of Rogers Cup.  I thought you'd put an extra new in your title by mistake!  Silly me.

Btw Mark, isn't it time to update the Tournament INfo on the home page to Rogers Cup?  Looks abit out of date! Whistle

Yep! Barry annoys me big time, as he talks a lot of crap most of the time, and this constant drooling over Fed's arse really drives me mad. Also wish he would get a decent suit, his looks so outdated and shabby.
