And yet why hasn't he won it before.

But it is a really nice icing on the cake and def more memorable to a slam winner than a 250, given its national implications.

Olympics for me is something nice to have. It's definitely not a must have and will most certainly not define Andy's career if he fails to win a Slam by the time all ends for him. Because Olympics represent the notion of a country more and tennis is more like an individual sport, it really doesn't capture the true essence of the sport. Once Olympics ends, most will forget about it and Andy will still be judged by the same standard (not good enough to win a Slam). This has no real value to one's true tennis career. Other than Nadal, I don't even remember who won the Olympics medal in the past, but I do know, both Sampras and Federer never cared for this title and that says a lot – given that these are the true champions of the sport and their names always come first in every category. You can now see how insignificant Olympics medal is in grand scheme of things. Olmpics is a great event for all other sports as far as they don’t have a greater event that outshines Olympics.

Forget tennis.. I say ANY sport in the Olympics is surely a doddle, compared to what poor old Hercules had to labour through: flex

1.Slay the Nemean Lion.
2.Slay the nine-headed Lernaean Hydra.
3.Capture the Golden Hind of Artemis.
4.Capture the Erymanthian Boar.
5.Clean the Augean stables in a single day.
6.Slay the Stymphalian Birds.
7.Capture the Cretan Bull.
8.Steal the Mares of Diomedes.
9.Obtain the girdle of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons.
10.Obtain the cattle of the monster Geryon.
11.Steal the apples of the Hesperides (He had the help of Atlas to pick them after Hercules had slain Ladon).
12.Capture and bring back Cerberus.

Now THAT deserves a Gold Medal, don't you think? clap

Olympics may ordinarily not be that important to Andy but this is London 2012 so for that reason, I think it does rank quite highly for him.

Makes sense. And if he doesn't win Wimbledon, then he may end up winning Olympics. That won't be so bad. He'll be keen at least.

Canada loves the Olympics, hosting the summer games in 1976 in Montreal. We especially love the winter games tho' (well, it is Canada, eh!) and usually clean up at this event. Hosted 1998 in Calgary, and 2010 in Vancouver.
Off the top of my head, here's just a few famous Olympians (and I won't even name their sport because I'm sure you'll know them):
- Ben Johnson (more infamous than famous, unfortunately)
- Donovan Bailey
- Clara Hughes
- Lennox Lewis
- Simon Whitfield
- Jamie Sale & David Pelletier
- Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir
- Patrick Chan
- Kurt Browning

I did google after you'd mentioned Lennox as I hadn't been aware of him moving to Canada and taking on dual citizenship but sorry, still nah for the others lol
