Andy at Rogers Cup 2012

Did they not even say  WHAT a absolute stunning few months that Andy has had.?   Its been brilliant.  Best player in the world just now  .  He needs a damn f**king rest.  Sorry if I'm being Selfish. I know he's a fit guy.  but seriously his body must be aching.

Not selfish at all, you're worried about him, me too.

Like I said, I missed the first hour, they may well have spoken about him. I'll go back and watch a bit in a mo. I'm daft, TV on in one room, and me in another lol.

I heard today I'm scheduled to get eye surgery on Tue Aug 7th.. a significant date bcos that's probably the day Andy plays.
I pleaded for cancellation, but surgeon can't do until end of October and I shouldn't really wait that long.
Seriously considering tossing a coin over this. Boooooo!
What would you do?

Oh no , whats the chance of that, but you must have it done.

thanks TMH  Smile  Andy's press is up.

Andy: "I think tennis belongs in the Olympics. I think this week, the way that the crowd have been in all the matches, proves that."

1st Q at Andy's gold press: "We saw after your win you ran over to your girlfriend & gave her a kiss...what did that kiss feel like?"  LOL  what the hell.  a BIT PERSONAL.  NO?

I really cannot see Andy getting far here, although he does seem to think he'll play.  I can't see him being able to cope with jetlag, the unaccustomed heat and the sudden change of surface - and all that on top of his Wimbledon exertions.  Also once again he has a ***** of a draw.  Well, he has to get to the US anyway, so I suppose Toronto is as good a place to start as any, and if he pulls out of Cincinnati and loses 1,000 ranking points, so be it.  Being fit for the USO is of paramount importance now.
It would be better to hop over Rogers but make sure of attempting to defend Cinncinnati. It must be now the need for rest and recreation is most pressing, no?

Well, Andys the one who knows best.

Hi All,

I've got Toronto on TV at the moment. I missed the first hour, which annoyed me. I wanted to see if they talked about Andy at all. Anyway, they mentioned some of them in his draw and pointed out that if he wins there he will overtake Rafa in the rankings. I'm guessing that is Andy's incentive to play.

Would he benefit massively at USO by being no 3 not no 4?

My life is on hold and my credit card on standby.
He said he will catch up on his sleep on the plane here today. He's supposed to play Wednesday, but all the pressers I've read say he will wait until he gets here and then decide.
Lendl will be here (he won't be at Cincy), so I guess they will have a lot of catching up to do and decisions to make. I will support any decision Andy makes.
I'm not counting my chickens until they are hatched.

teejay- I watched a bit of Totornto on sky this evening Marcus seemed pretty pumped for Andy, and Petchey did too, but Petchey did say dont get csrried away because fewer good grasscourters than HC he expects Del Po, Ferrer to be bigger threats at USO than they are on grass and also Novak will be keen to establish himself again!! so Andy should def not be considered favorite for USO.

All fair comments i feel!

Hi Rachie and all,

I think that's a measured response from Petchey. It's actually more measured than a Sky News interview he did on the day of the Men's Wimbledon final. I found a short video clip just after I joined here and really should have mentioned it and then couldn't find it again, so I forgot. The gist of it was that Petchey was asked to assess Andy's performance, which he did, and then he questioned Andy's ability to win majors. It was the first time I have ever heard him talk so negatively about Andy. It really surprised me, and shocked me to be honest. I thought it was a very harsh judgement on what was not a bad performance at all, but I must say that I put it down partly to being disappointed.

Well, don't get me wrong, Andy going on to win the US is not a done deal. We all know that, including Andy, I'm sure of that. I do think there are players who probably will threaten on the hard more than they have on the grass. Frankly you always get players who threaten more on one surface than others, for example, at the current time I would prefer Andy not to come up against Ferrer on clay again for a while, whereas on grass and hard I would say Andy would be more likely to come through, even if it meant a fight.

The point I think Petchey is making is basically common sense, i.e it's not a done deal, don't get carried away. There could also be a feeling of not dumping too much pressure on Andy, not setting him up for a fall, which is right. However, what I hoped he might have talked about, what I hope he might still talk about if Andy plays in Toronto, is the approach Andy took in the match against Federer, which to my eyes was laden with belief and determination that he was not leaving that court until he'd won. That seemed quite significant to me, given the context of the match and the situation.

Personally I wouldn't say Andy is THE favourite for the USO, such a prediction would be silly at this stage. However, to my mind  he is one of a few contenders who has a significant chance. Frankly if he can keep up the sort of form he has shown lately Andy will threaten all of them, I don't think you need to be an expert to see that. It is a valid question to ask whether this could be the catalyst for Andy, his Djokovic moment, if you like. We'll see.

I'm glad Marcus and Petch were pleased for Andy.

Agreed, i don't think Andy will be a favourite for any slam until he wins one.
The way he has been playing of late would suggest he will as his forehand has improved no end this year, him being aggressive at the right time, the Djokovic semi being a prime example of this as lets face it Novak looked in great form as he was no slouch that night. His first serve has got him out of a few scrapes but i think he has always had a good first serve when its firing & its firing at the right times at the mo.
I'm so positive right now as his improvement this year is evident to any Andy fan. I'm expecting the golden slam to be done by this time next year!! Ok mabye not the French!!!
Agree there will be a big threat from Del Potro after his Olympics. He's certainly on his way back.
