He has to get to the semis!
I know that he's targetting the second week first of all (which I assume means 4th round), but I think that he's privately looking at the QFs at least. Across five sets, he ought to be good enough now to take down most people. It's just the top ten or so that he might still struggle against and I think he avoids all of them until at least the QFs. That sort of result would get him a decent amount of points - he only made the 3rd round last year.

I think playing to his seeding at RG would cap a pretty decent clay season.
My view before MC was that a couple of semis and a qf would respresent a 'good' season on clay this year.

The quarter final should be the target for me. I view the top 4 on clay as being Nadal, Fed, Djok, Verdasco, with Andy in that 5-8 group alongside guys like Del Potro and Davydenko.
With this in mind a semi final, two quarter finals and just one failure would be a decent return on the clay season.
The only problem is that at Roland Garros he'll have to win 4 matches to reach the quarters as opposed to 2 matches at the other events. Here's hoping for a good draw.

I'd be happy with qf.
Well I wouldn't, but I'd like to think he'll get at least that far.
I think his clay court game will improve in a couple of years. It's getting the movement right, learning to slide into his shots.
If you're not a natural clay courter I think it takes a time before it becomes part of your game.
I never, ever mastered it!!

So who do people see as the danger men from lower down in the draw? Who do we want Andy to avoid? He can meet anyone currently ranked outside the top 12 before the QF.
Personally I think Ferrer, Robredo and Wawrinka are as bad as it gets, and I'd favour Andy against any of them. C'mon Andy!

I wouldn't favour him against Wawa. He's one to avoid.

Over five sets, I am hopeful Andy will reach the QF or beyond. I am also hopeful that against the more consistent players, Andy will be a bit more agressive and dictate the points a bit more.
In general, I am wary of consistent players who are willing to dictate the points without overpressing. They will run Andy ragged.

This is one where I always seem to be out of step with most of the people here.
I simply don't rate Wawrinka - he doesn't seem to have anything that separates him from any one of a dozen other decent clay-courters. To me he seems like a borderline top 20 player that went above his natural ranking last year on the back of one good tournament, and I've yet to see anything from him that convinces me he's in for an extended stay in the top 20 let alone a return to the top 10. Whatever it is that other people see in him, I just don't.
Not saying I'm definitely right, just calling it the way I see it.

I am one of those who just has a natural bad feeling about Wawrinka, but looking at it sensibly now, there's no real reason to have one. I think it stems from the fact that he made Andy look ordinary at times earlier in his career, coupled with that Rome final last year that you mention. Such things tend to take on greater importance than they merit - similarly, I still feel that Andy will always lose to Fed, despite the one-sided H2H! The fact that Tsonga beat Andy in the AO last year means that he is another player that elicits a subconcious fear in me whenever he appears near our man in the draw.
Wawrinka is still half-decent on clay, but I wouldn't be overly worried if Andy drew him now at RG.

I'm nervous.
Ooooh, I am excited now! I hope I am awake by then.
Finished exams last week and am really hungover, despite the fact that I also still drank today haha. I was DJing at my friends in the afternoon and then went to a BBQ at his girlfriends, so I'm now shatteeeered.
