10s balls article

(Original Story: http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2013/05/19/Madrid-Murray-Preview.aspx)

World No. 3 Andy Murray comes into the Mutua Madrid Open looking to find his footing on clay after winning one match in his season debut on the dirt at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.

“Practice is important for me on this surface more than most because I need to get used to the movements again, patterns of play that I use on this surface, which is different to the other courts,” Murray said.

“I need to get used to playing points again on this surface, because there are things that you do on the clay that don’t necessarily work on other surfaces, and things that work on other courts don’t work so well on the clay. So it takes a lot of time on the court practising and playing a lot of sets for me to get back into that routine.”

While Murray has amassed 26 tour-level trophies, the Scot is yet to reach a clay final. But Murray is confident his game can translate to success on every surface.

“I feel like every time I go into tournaments, I’m capable of winning. I think the chances of me winning tournaments vary depending on the surface,” said Murray. “But on grass and hard courts, I’ve played very well over the last year. Really since Miami last year, I’ve had good results on the hard courts. And the grass I obviously enjoy playing on as well. The clay has been still the most challenging surface for me, but I’ve played some good matches and beaten some tough players.”

Murray will face Florian Mayer or lucky loser Marinko Matosevic in his Madrid opener.

Andy is the guy who used to throw a strop when he lost at monopoly. Anyone who knows Andy at all will know that never in a million years would he "roll-over". Its something he would never do. Ever. Losing hurts too much. Your suggestion is cobblers of the highest order.
Did you mean Scrabble with Kim last year? Not really a strop. lol

^ Prod means Simon will have an early exit......or of course, Andy will shocking
Just for the record - Simon nearly had an early exit against Benneteau today.

I can understand people trying to find a reason or excuse for that performance but you we will probably never know why he played like he did. It was weird to watch: an Andy I have never seen. He didn't even get pissed off!!! But I am in no doubt that he did had a very good reason.
He played exactly the same against Kohlschreiber in his first match at MC in 2010.  Same score, same inexplicable collapse after only two games and subsequent loss of interest and he got booed then as well.  That was extremely painful to watch too, but at that point he was still getting over his post-AO slump.  What made this collapse so different is that Andy is in a much better place now and also had played extremely well in his first match albeit against a much weaker opponent.  Whatever was going on I really don't think he was tanking, something I'm darned sure Lendl wouldn't encourage anyway, just, for whatever reason, having a seriously off day.

The French really are terrible sports fans though - remember Rafa getting booed at RG in 2011 when he beat not a Frenchman, but John Isner?  And the time Andy got jeered when he beat Simon in MC after Simon twisted his ankle, and naughty Andy kept playing drop-shots Simon couldn't reach?  There are a few other well-documented instances of French crowd behaviour as well.

I've seen Andy up close and personal when he's been practising.

He absolutely hates to lose!

Bellucci has been replaced by LL Matosevic. Bellucci injury described as "abdominal"

Mayer/Matosevic play tomorrow. Andy plays winner
Just read that.  Feel sorry for Bellucci but a bit relieved at the same time - although I'm not sure that Mayer's a better prospect given that he's a top 30 player who's played a lot of matches on clay this year.   Should Matosevic win, Andy has never played him.

Tomic's dad arrested for knocking out his training partner. More info in the tennis news thread but thought it was worth mentioning here as well.

Also Djokovic on Madrid:

Djokovic "There is an altitude here.. which helps the servers & more aggressive players.. That can make Dimitrov very dangerous."

That leaves Federer as the dangerous one too. One can safely assume he has better chance winning Madrid than Dimitrov.

Bellucci withdrew Angie (injured) - Mayer's playing Matosevic (lucky loser) instead today, so I guess this means Andy will start tomorrow.
