Just got round to reading the latest posts.
Sorry Aileen, I appear to have confused matters. When I say official site, I meant the Indian Wells site.
You're forgiven Bev. I mean, I never do things like that!
^^^I think we should cut him some slack and move on,
He already has.
But if he keeps on doing it
Lendl will definitely be doing that!
It's very unfortunate, I think, that until now Andy has had coaches - Maclagan and Corretja - who've possibly been a little afraid of him and have therefore been too soft. Brad Gilbert on the other hand was entirely the wrong coach at the wrong time. Not only was Andy way too immature to listen to him but BG is a rather overpowering individual who loves the sound of his own voice. Also the fact that they were together 24/7 did nothing to help matters. For a start, a teenager having to share a hotel room with a man old enough to be his father was never going to work. Thankfully the LTA have relaxed the rules in this respect now.
Fortunately Andy is now mature enough to take a coach like Lendl on board, and Lendl, who has undoubtedly mellowed a little, seems to have got Andy pretty well sussed out. He needs the iron hand in a velvet glove treatment, and I've a feeling that's exactly what he's getting from Lendl right now, although, if pushed, I could imagine Lendl will still be quite a force to be reckoned with.
Andy tends to mask his brilliance, and I don't know why he does it. He has the game to beat anyone on his day - it just seems like the fear of being great eats him up, Always the bridesmaid, I fear...
Aw Elly - sorry to hear you're still playing that same old record! Believe, woman, believe!!!
So what if you saw Andy throw his racquet on the ground in disgust at the end of the match. Other players have done similar things and I'd probably done the same myself in his situation. At least he didn't start smashing his racquet up, nor were there any of the accustomed oncourt histrionics from him (I don't rate a few swear words as being in that category, and many players are just as bad as he is, only a lot of them don't do their swearing in English!), and he managed to compose himself very quickly afterwards. So a lot of improvement there.
