How come IW and Miami are longer than the other MS events? Never understood it.

IW really is like a 5th GS.

They're longer because they have bigger draws.

Well, let's hope that Andy's health has improved sufficiently to withstand the dry heat out in the desert.

I'm mixed up with the start day because the women start on the Wednesday.

The OOP is due out today.

Yes, I know. Why do they have/are they allowed to have bigger draws, though?

Indian Wells used to be part of the Super 9 which are just one level below Grand Slams - did all Super 9 Tournaments have the same size Draw as Indian Wells?

I'd imagine it's because they're very popular, both with spectators on site and on TV, so they take advantage by having larger draws (i.e. more matches for TV and spectators).
That's always what happens in any sport or event, the more popular, the more they try to expand it.

Seems strange to see Indian Wells called "BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells" - even stranger that any of the banks have any spare money for this type of thing.
