I note that AM is flying out there - hope he will be fit enough to play.

On jet-lag, if he plays his first match(es) in the afternoon, it will feel like the evening to him - local time seems to be 6 hours behind us (at time of posting it is 7:21 am there) with DST of 1hr in use there.

Jet-lag is worse going east than travelling west so the effect should not be as bad.

I've never been on a plane, so have never suffered from jetlag. It strikes me as odd that it can last up to a week or more. From what I understand it's tiredness. I had always assumed you could sleep it off by staying in bed for about 12 hours.

What does it feel like?

I have always found that it takes me one day per hour of time change to adjust.  Flying to the West Coast is an 11 hour flight and the time difference is 8 hours (usually, other than when they puts their clocks forwards and backwards three weeks ahead of GMT).  Some people adjust more quickly than others and I found I could help myself a lot by drinking lots of water - flying dehydrates the body.  Melatonin can help, as can a sleeping pill until the body adjusts - some people even swear by a light box.

They say it's a day per hour. However, I travel a lot, and quite far time-zone-wise and have never suffered at all. I assume it's because my sleeping patterns are never fixed (every day I sleep at different times!) anyway.

WhenI flew back from the US to the UK, we lost a day, and I just did my best to stay up the next day and then slept well for a night. I was fine the following day!

I agree that you can just "mentally float in and out slightly" having travelled in this direction - how did you get on going in the other direction?

It's harder, because of the flight times. Like we got in at 3pm. Went to bed at 12ish. Woke up at 7am, wide awake. And I just couldnt get adjusted for the rest of the week. Every night at 8-9pm I'd feel really tired. Everything else was fine, just couldnt shake the tiredness.

That's right - it does take about a week and then, it's just like turning on a light switch - all is well.

I don't expect Andy to do well in the tournament tbh.  I just think he's going to need a bit of time to get over whatever he's been suffering from.  Shrug   Hope I'm wrong though.....

How come IW and Miami are longer than the other MS events? Never understood it.

IW really is like a 5th GS.

Is it because the men and women are playing at the same tournament at the same time rather than one week apart, as is the case in some tournaments?
