People always say Ferrer is a clay court specialist but I think this is a bit of a myth. His record a Rolland Garros is fairly awful. He got knocked out 2nd round in Monte Carlo and he got well and truly horsed by Fed a couple of days ago. I would actually fancy Andy versus Ferrer. At least he won't get blown off the court like he would versus Berdych.

I'd like to be impartial, but I can't!

On any other surface Murray would be favoured over Ferrer but not on Clay! If Murray beat Ferrer in the quarters it would be his best win on this surface thus far!

Nalbandian's past his sell by date so hopefully no worries. Crashquet's talented but flaky. Guess Ferrer will be a big test. I actually want Andy to play people like Raonic and Berdych so he gets lots of practise in, ready for the slams. I don't care if he never wins another Masters 1,000. He has enough already. Though one clay court title would be icing on cake

Yup - very interesting draw, as good as Andy could have hoped for for a good run on (real!!) clay, and some interesting match ups among his various nemeses - is that the correct plural? Be a great week anyhow - but no doubles unfortunately!!

I just want Andy to come away from the Clay with his health intact and having protected his points, then roll on Summer when it will be the Muzza Season!!!

i agree health intact and protecting his points which is important.
I actually think the rest may have been good for him and lendl, come in allfiring with new tactis against these top players something must happen soon before the Aegon and Wimbledon. Come on Andy we have missed you!!!

I'll just be glad to see players on the red dirt again. Couldn't take to the blue clay at all. My concern is that Andy is seriously short of match practice, so how can this rest benefit him in any way? Also Lendl only saw him in MC (an unfortunate tournament that) and Barcelona - not exactly much chance to observe how he performs on clay or put any new tactics into practice. Lendl won't be in Rome, so Andy will have to go it alone. Whether that's going to be a help or a hindrance, goodness knows. As always I'm taking each match as it comes, so for the moment I'm only focussing on Andy's first match - which might not even be against Nalbandian. The assumption that Qualifiers are going to get beaten has been proved wrong before.

Looking forward to Rome Always like it there. As it's another masters we will again be running RTR for this tournament.

It looks like Darren Cahill has been helping Andy the last week - he's been in pics of Andy training.
