Monaco is a very capable clay court player, this is as tough as Andy could have asked for in a second round match.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks so, but Monaco has won titles on clay, it's going to be a very tough match.

I'm with Sir Panda. Monaco hasn't won a title on a surface OTHER than clay.
He got to 14 in the rankings last year. Andy's only beaten him on a hard court and even then he dropped a set. This is no walkover.

Why ? Just nervous and paranoid ?
contrary to popular belief A. Murray is not the only player not at his best on clay. Monaco has not been past r16 on clay in the last year. ie before MC Andy had a better record on clay than him.
Dont get me wrong as he warms up on clay there are no easy matches, just no particular reason to worry about this one.

Paranoid is a bit strong, but this is a tough, tough match considering Andy's had a week off.
Monaco has also qualified and beaten Kiefer comfortably.
I hope I'm eating my words in a few days time.

Comparing stats from a year ago doesn't mean much. The guy can clearly play on clay and it's right that there should be a little caution in approaching this match.

Monoco can do ok in lesser clay tournaments but hasn't recently done much in bigger tournaments. Don't get me wrong MC was great but Murray will have more clay disappointment before that becomes the norm I just think he has a reasonable chance especially if the Nadal game helps him overcome his first set nerves he appears to have on clay.

Monte Carlo was not a year ago I am simply showing the most recent relevant tournaments. You are implying that Andy should not turn up because he clearly can NOT play on clay.

That's not what we're saying at all. We'd all love Andy to win, but the match isn't as easy as it could have been, or as easy as some think it might be.

I realise stats mean nothing to those that dont understand them. So I will shut up and not mention any till I forget agin in a few months. but they helped me be one of the few on " Draw Challenge Circuit" to predict Andy would play and beet F. Fognini and N. Davydenko before the tournament started I also predicted Nadal would win, But I will conseed that was easy as he "can clearly play on clay"
