This is one of the best draws Andy's ever been given.

Andy Murray - US Open and Wimbledon champion! :)

It all comes down to Djokovic. He's the only one who can stop Nadal.

Mixed feelings about Nadal getting back to #4 (from Andy's perspective). With him at #5 it leaves the risk of Andy drawing him in the QFs.. but equally leaves him the chance of avoiding all three of the big 4 in his half.

Then again, given the surface, Berdych, Del Potro and Ferrer are all equally as formidable anyway so it might not really matter.

Yeah I don't think it'll really have a big bearing on Andy's result at RG either way. At the moment, I think a QF result for him would be great - anything else would be a bonus. Hope Nadal's back as the number 4 seed at Wimbledon though - a Nadal QF > Federer SF would be rough.

The Rome draw has a more forgiving feel to it then Madrid did, firstly Andy has a potentially injured Del Potro in his quarter and Federer does not have the most satisfying draw with the likes of Gasquet, Tsonga and Haas lurking. Andy's second round opponents, Nikolay Davydenko and Marcel Granollers are in a slump, both losing in the first round of Madrid last week. Davydenko's record against the Top 10 on clay is pretty poor and so is Granollers.

Can we all admit now that it would be very disappointing if he didn't reach the semis here? If he can't beat Del Potro/Almagro in their current form/fitness it would be very telling.

No. I take each match and its result as it comes, without passing judgement. Hope he wins it, and if he doesn't, there's always the next one.

Delpo is down for playing doubles in Rome.  Either he's confident he has the fitness/form to play both, or he is using doubles as a back-up to ensure match practice.

It will be disappointing yes - if Andy is truly steadily improving on the clay he'll reach the Final here

Also, LOL at Ferrer drawing Nadal again.

Not fixed at all.

You couldn't make it up, could you? And we think Andy has rotten luck with draws. But yes, not fixed at all are they. Mind you, with the time rule in force Nadal seems to think the world is against him anyway, so..... Whistle

I was'nt expecting Murray to play Rome . At last he'll get some more match practice I'm convinced that is what he needs.

Why were you convinced? It's a Masters event = compulsory.

Agreed - he won't be facing DP in the Qtrs and he won't be playing Smugfed either.  This is a fantastic draw for Andy (hope he gets it again at RG).  Djoker's got a stinker of a draw which includes the world's best Swiss player.  So, in his Qtr, Andy has avoided Bersh*t, Raonic, Stan, Dimitrov, and Nadal = Result.  The only possible improvement might have been Tsonga instead of DP.

Andy looked good against Berdych, just needs to convert Break points.  In Rome he'll be better again as his movement on clay continues to improve.

The world's best Swiss player? Do we mean Wawrinka?

I'm sorry, the temptation was too great lol.

Berdych wasn't in great form either.

None of the top players, apart from Nadal, have really been in any sort of form at all. Which has opened the door for some players outside the top 10 to make the latter stages of these last couple of Masters. Wawrinka blitzing it.

Ha Ha.  Stan yes.  But seriously, there must be a chance of Stan overtaking the Smug One in the rankings after Wimby.

How do we know what their respective form/fitness will be like in Rome? What's the point of setting Andy little tests like this?

I don't think Nadal's been at his best either.
