Singapore: Tomas Berdych, Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Serena Williams, Bruno Soares, Patrick Rafter, Daniela Hantuchova, Nick Krygios

Bangkok: Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, Victoria Azarenka, Daniel Nestor, Carlos Moya, Kirsten Flipkens

Mumbai: Rafael Nadal, Gael Monfils, Pete Sampras, Rohan Bopanna, Ana Ivanovic, Sania Mirza, Fabrice Santoro

Dubai: Novak Djokovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Goran Ivanisevic, Janko Tipsarevic, Nenad Zimonic, Malek Jaziri, Martina Hingis

Think they have a the best top 3 players combination but don't have the strength of depth of the other teams

£14 million in all was spent on the 28 players to be sold in the auction with 70 stars having put their names forward for bidding.

The players who were left unsold included recent Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka, David Ferrer and Agnieszka Radwanska with team owners limited to price and numbers.

The competition will consist of 24 matches played between November 28 and December 13 with each encounter made up of a men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles and legends’ singles – one set per contest.

I know which teams I'll be rooting to get through to the final.

I don't get how these categories work, correct me if I'm wrong.

The Icon players of both the men and women are the ones in demand by the most owners of each of the five city teams. Category D are the ones least in demand and less likely to make the team?

Is there any motivation to actually win for these teams?

This seems like a really bad idea. So many of the top players complain about being tired at the end of the season and then they sign up to play this during the off-season? All about the money I guess...

Each team had £14 million to spend...So each player had a minimum value and was auctioned off to the highest bidder hence why some top players never got picked. So if Andy was bought I presume for £4million ish that leave £10 million for other players in that team. Guess Mr Murray is a lot richer today if he was bought for £4million

Not bad for a few sets of tennis in December   clap

So one doubt, what happens to the players who went unsold?

They don't play. They merely just made themselves available.

Apparently players could set a minimum fee, so if no-one bid high enough, they wouldn't play.

Not all players complain about the length of the season, and those that do often want to have the freedom to choose to do nothing, to train, or to play in a location of their choice.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out, and I will reserve judgement on it until then.  I can see pros and cons.  Superficially, it looks like a glorified exhibition event, just for the $$$, but if planned and executed properly, it has the potential to trigger a lot of interest in tennis in new parts of the world, as well as being a bit of fun for the players.  The unusual format should help create interest for the tv companies, and I hope we get to see some of it in action.

See my previous post.  It's possible their self-selected minimum bid wasn't met.  Perhaps they were unrealistic, or perhaps they weren't that fussed about doing it, so deliberately set a very high minimum.
