Andy Murray - Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2014

Quote

This tournament starts at the end of next week, just days after Andy is set to play in the Abu Dhabi exhibition event on the 26th December. Andy has had history at this event, being a two time champion in 2008 and 09, beating Wawrinka and Roddick respectively. This will be Andy's first full tournament since leading the Great Britain Davis Cup team back into the World Group for 2014.

Andy is joined at this event by Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Richard Gasquet to name a few. The field here looks solid so Murray will be thrown into the deep end pretty quickly at the start of the season. Regardless, I think he should start pretty strong here and have a decent run, whether or not he will reach the final or better is still questionable.

Seeds:

1  Rafael Nadal
2  David Ferrer
3  Andy Murray
4  Tomas Berdych
5  Richard Gasquet
6  Philipp Kohlschreiber
7  Ernests Gulbis
8  Fernando Verdasco

Andy has also since entered the doubles tournament of this event, he will partner former doubles World No. 1 Nenad Zimonjic. They are to be seeded 4th in the event.

I just want to see him back on court, so not that bothered how far he gets, although if he has any hope of doing well in the AO he needs to get some matches under his belt, and I can't see him doing anything in AD unless Tsonga is as match-rusty as he is.

JW hasn't exactly played much the last few months.  As long as Andy is physically fit they'll be equally as match unfit as each other!

Looking at the top eight seeds @GangstaMurray, I can see why Federer opted to play in Brisbane!  I don't know where Djoko's playing after AD though, if in fact he is - and I've just checked and he's not listed anywhere, not even Kooyong.

Wouldn't be surprised if JW is a few lbs overweight.

Stronger the field the better for Andy to get any idea of where he is at.

Gr8 news re doubles, just needs more match play now, to test that back, also lots of good volleying practise. Have a feeling Nole has hired Becker to improve his net skills.

Zimonjic is a top notch doubles player. I expect nothing less than a title here.

I've opened a thread for Abu Dhabi, which runs from 26-28 December - http://www.murraysworld.com/forum/andy-murray/andy-at-abu-dhabi/msg954268/?topicseen#new

In AD Andy will be guaranteed two matches to find out where his game is and which will be good preparation for Doha.
Thanks Aileen. Very good and I hope he does find his feet slowly (but quickly)

I cant wait!

Zimonjic was #1 (very briefly) a year or two ago.

Surely we don't expect him to win?  Rolling Eyes Merely to try out his back and get some much needed match practise.
Only three months ago he had a back operation. Time for a reality check.
