I saw him in NY at the USOpen this year. It was my first time at the USOpen and it was amazing!  I didn't get the chance to see him play a match live... I got to see him at the practice courts and I watched the whole entire time! He's amazing in real life. I couldn't belive I was there seeing him Smile I was so close to getting an autograph, but didnt.  He signed a lot though.  He seemed to smile all the time.  I saw him on the big screen when he played Hasse.  That was a thriller match.  Hope to go to Indian Wells or Cincinatti next year to see him.

New member here...I did meet Andy for the first time at the US Open this year - managed to get an autograph and almost died of a heart attack watching his match with Haase live. In person, Andy is quite good looking- beautiful skin which makes his green eyes the more noticeable and a really slim physique. He was quite chatty when signing autographs and exchanged a funny quip with one fan who when trying to get an autograph said, "Andy, you are my wife's favorite player." To which Andy responded, "So, then naturally I am not your favorite." It was quite cheeky and got the whole crowd of fans laughing. Watching him play live is really an experience, especially in a match as topsy turvy as the Haase one.  His monologues to himself are quite tortured; I don't know if TV cameras pick them all up, but if you sit close enough to the court, you can hear them really well. Listening for them was pretty much the highlight of the match for me especially as his play that day was so pressure inducing. All in all it was a fabulous experience... wub

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

welcome to MW Isabel and thanks for that lovely post.

Oh we do indeed hear Andy's monologues loud and clear on TV, and just for good measure the cameras show close-ups of his face.   Experience in lip-reading is not required!
I'm going to have to stop reading this thread because I'm positively drool by now and yes, MR, you are a French b**** Very Happy but we love you for all the wonderful pics of Andy that you post. hug

Thanks for the welcome Aileen...it feels good not to be a lurker anymore! Regarding Andy's colorful language on court, my enduring memories of the Australian Open are always really slow- mo replays of Andy's curses on court. Somehow, I always think that coverage of the AO always replays his cursing more than at the other slams. The replays seem to be interminable and then to heighten the hilarity, the commentators always trip over themselves to apologize for Andy. I, for one, do not mind the salty language...it's all part of his charm, especially when he berates himself in the 3rd person.  Very Happy

Glad you finally came in from the cold! Smile  I don't mind the language either, but thank goodness I don't have Sky because, apart from when the BBC shows his matches, I watch them live-streamed on tennisTV.com - the ATP's official stream - and that comes from the American channel ESPN, and their commentators, even a British one, aren't in the least queasy about upsetting their viewers' supposed sensibilities!  The Beeb and Sky really should give it a rest given the ripe language in so many of their programmes.

It would be interesting to hear your stories if anyone has met Andy.
I was lucky enough to do so last year.  I live in Toronto, where the Rogers Cup is played, so I've been lucky enough to watch Andy play, also Nole, Nadal and Fed, amongst others.  Last year I watched Andy practise with Dani a couple of hours before his match against Monfils.  In fact, he almost hit me with his serve! (Believe me... he has one powerful serve!) Kim and Judy were also present.  When he had finished, he came over to sign my Scottish flag and I had a short conversation with him.  It was a brutally hot sunny day, and he was just slathered in sunscreen all over his nose. He really is just an ordinary lad, very unassuming and friendly, and very funny!  I completely get his droll sense of humour, probably because I am also Scottish.. and married to a Scottish lad too!  He is very typical.
I didn't get to see him this year because the men played in Montreal  (just as well, I would have been heartbroken to have been present at the Anderson match).
Looking forward to next year Smile
Anyone else got a story to tell...?

I posted this the day before I had back surgery, this is the first time I've been able to sit to use the laptop since then.   I am thrilled to read the responses and happy to hear there are others out there who have encountered Andy and also found him to be a decent, personable lad.  I sometimes wish he could show more of this side of him when the media are present, but then that wouldn't be Andy.
I do have some photos of that day, but I will have to dig through my photo files to find them.  I tend to be a bit technically-challenged Rolling Eyes
Thanks again.. you all cheered me up today  Smile

Met him at Braehead in September at the DC.  I had tickets for the 3 days but passed my day 3 ticket on  to my daughter's partner, but went along to venue with them and my grandson. Grandson is 3 and a huge Murray fan, got into tennis watching this past Wimbledon and rushes round the house with his toy racquet pretending to be 'Andy!' He went in to watch the practice (we decided a full game would be too much for him, especially with the noise), and came out thrilled he had seen 'Andy' close up. Anyhow while the last 2 matches were being played, he and I went for a picnic outside along by the river where I stumbled across the media tent.  Daughter sent a text when Murray's match ground to an end (he wasn't playing very well that day), so I wandered along with grandson just in time to see Andy disappear into media centre for interviews. We sat outside and when he came out, were about the only people there. I asked if he would mind me taking a picture with my grandson, who was literally stunned into silence. He was great and talked to us, and I have a wonderful pic of the two of them and both are smiling. Was tremendously impressed that he was so kind when he was shattered, and would have been quite justified in telling us to go away, but copies of the pic now adorn the mantelpieces of all the relatives, and grandson still smiles when he tells people about how 'I met Andy'. Am of the opinion now he is shy, rather than the stroppy Andy the press portray.  It takes a lot to impress this cynical woman, but he managed it!

Daughter bumped into him when he was leaving venue, and he signed a couple of things for her.  She said he was very patient as she was all fingers and thumbs. Have to say all the team were very accommodating, and as we were at the front we were trapped by the kiddies and were handing kids over the seats to the front so they got their chance ; but Leon Smith wouldn't sign anything!
