AO 2013 SF: Murray vs Federer

Quote

yeah Murray is better than Fed now, but Fed is 31!!!

Think you guys are getting carried away but yes I agree that Andy has gotten over a psychological barrier, but lets be honest, Federer isn't what he once was.

See, Fed and Andy werent their best at the same time, so whoever was playing their best tennis, wins the match. Andy is at his best now hence, he won it.

We all know that - but please don't take the gloss off Andy's win.  A year ago he would probably have crumbled mentally after the 4th set, and even an aging Fed would have taken advantage of it.  Also his serve and FH have greatly improved.

Yes no doubt he has improved, but beating Fed is just a hurdle, the Final is on Sunday against Nole (who i regard as being fresh and ready rather than too cooled off).

My point is lets not all get too euphoric over him beating Fed when Sunday is and was always going to be the real test...

No harm in enjoying the result. This was a massive win for Andy, and a big win against the critics.

These are the sort of matches you hold on to, otherwise, what's the point?

I can see what you're saying, but Andy didnt go to Melbourne to knock Fed out, he went to win...eyes on the prize guys...

You're not wrong Elle-but the point is,to get to that final test on Sunday,he had to win today against Federer. And while Federer might be older than he used to be,etc etc,he is still playing some very, very good tennis.Plus Andy had never beaten him in a slam before. So today was a big win,and it really is worth celebrating the fact that he's through to the challenge that awaits on Sunday.C'mon Andy! Smile

I think if Andy feels anything like me he's emotionally drained come the end of a 5-setters which is possibly why he doesn't celebrate so heavily.
