Basel R1: Murray vs Haase

Quote

The OOP is out for Tuesday and Andy is not playing doubles tomorrow either, I hope this doesn't mean he will have to play doubles and singles on Wednesday. If that is the case I think we should bombard the organisers of Basel with our protests and tell them that such bias towards Federer will not be tolerated.

Their opponents, Mirnyi and Nestor, did just reach the final of Vienna so maybe they requested to play on the Wednesday.

And if it's a Thursday start for the doubles and Andy beat Haase on Wednesday, then Andy will have 2 matches on Thursday anyway. So what different does it make to play both singles and doubles on Wednesday?

Btw, Fleming and Hutchins, the St Petersburg champions, are also not on the OOP of tomorrow either.

This would not happen to Federer.  By the way Sky Sports are showing Basel and not Valencia, it is shown on their guide now.

Yes, you're right Alis......He did say that and maybe that would pay off sometimes, but only if he had fairly easy matches! I don't think he's going to get that at Basle somehow though!

Also with Andy playing doubles with Jamie it's going to be doubly (no puns intended) difficult to succeed to the title winners rostrum. Having said that, I have great faith in wir Andrew.

Isn't the point that it would be fairer if Andy were scheduled to play his first singles match tomorrow?  The 3rd seed is playing today and I imagine the 1st is playing tomorrow though not checked oop myself.

So it is - so unless Andy is out on the second court tomorrow, it'll be five straight days of play (again!) in order to claim the title. Rolling Eyes
On Andys website it states Wednesday, but Tuesday would seem unlikely since he's not on the OOP either.

It looks as though Andy isn't scheduled to play either singles or doubles tomorrow - unless I've misread it - which is totally unacceptable in my view.  Andy is far too nice - about time he started stamping his feet.

Haase plays his doubles match tomorrow so will be used to the court.

Definitely a dangerous first opponent for Andy, the description  'streaky' was designed with Haase in mind, don't you think?

This is good news, hopefully Andy is still involved when their coverage begins later this week. I wasn't looking forward to watching Andy again on dodgy live feeds that freeze in the middle of a point, Andy's matches can be traumatic enough!
It will be interesting to see where Fed and Novak are at after their respective lay-offs, it would be brilliant for Andy's morale if he can win this one with them involved. Hats off to our boy for taking the fight to them in Basel instead of opting for an easier ride in Valencia. C'mon Andy!!!!

Federer won but the scoreline didnt do him any favours against such a low ranked player

That's exactly what I think too. Andy is gutsy choosing Basel and challenging Federer on his home ground. It makes sense to build confidence. Fed is not at his best, I watched some of the match versus Starace and PS gave Fed as good work out. Narrowly loosing the first set- mores the pity.

Its gonna be a tough match against Haase, who will be looking for revenge. Andy will need to come out all guns blasing.  cmon yeah cmon yeah
