Not Andy's best match, but a win is a win. Smile Well done! Janowicz next.
He often struggles a bit in his first match and then improves as the tourney goes on.

Janowicz should be interesting, just glad he wasn't Andy's first match.  Seems to be a young player who could be going places.

Well done, given I thought he would need 3 to do it, he did well. Apart from that break he did what was necessary, when it was necessary. I thought the crowd were foul, but no worse than the Wimbledon lot during the Gold Match when they were cheering every time Fed lost a point.

Not really nail-biting, but I'm always a bit anxious to get one match under the belt.  Mathieu looked to benefit from increased match play relative to Andy, and it was probably good that Andy experienced a little bit of pressure, although not too much, and I'm happy for the match to take little over 1 1/2 hours so not too draining.

Good start from Andy today against a tricky opponent. I think we all know he can be better, but he got the job done efficiently enough.

I thought the crowd was...er, very French. It's like the FO, where they support their own and boo everyone else's. It's okay though, and didn't seem to phase Andy one bit.

Who else wants to kill the bloke with the drum? I swear to God, if I'd been sitting next to him he'd have had it shoved somewhere anatomically impossible.

Anyway, good to get the first match over. Onwards and upwards!

He said he had practised on the court a bit but it was much faster today than when he had been practising on it.Took him a while to ajust to the conditions because of that.Said after a couple of matches he should be playing a lot better.
