Steady result for Andy, nothing spectacular but always nice to get the opening round out of the way. Dimitrov and Berdych losing early is a great chance for Andy to make up some points.

Andy dares Justin G. to the Ice Bucket Challenge live on Tennis Channel.
Great job dumping the ice bath on Justin!!!
I watched with some glee as Justine got iced ,all in good fun.

Ultimately a straightforward win for...............THE TECHNICIAN.

However rewind, if you will, to game 4 in the 2nd set. Andy is a break-up leading 2-1 in the set. He's then 40-0 on his own serve. Thereafter he just goes AWOL mentally, f@nnying about, and before you know it he's break point down. He's been doing this all year, most notably when he is a break up in the deciding set and going on to lose the match. He got out of jail in that game but against a better player he will be punished.

Go and take as running jump.
Did you watch Djokovic match, not playing at the same standard as Andy. Takes time to adjust to the conditions.

A decent win. Nothing more or less. Wobbled to lose serve.. has to cut that out per post match interview...never seems to tho. Only first match this comp tho and just had to win.. which he did. Good onya Andy for that!

He didn't lose serve.

Yes. A wobble, but no loss of serve.

And the comms said that it was nothing to be concerned about as the level of concentration required for Andy against someone of Sousa's level was very different to that needed when he plays a top player and so such wobbles are likely when the highest concentration isn't needed at all times.

I questioned ages and ages ago when I first joined here why Andy didn't give his all at every match, no matter who his opponent was. I was shot down in flames, and so scurried into a corner, when several posted that he didn't need to, and that Andy had to conserve for going deeper in Masters/Slams.

Can I just say?.... Shrug
