Cincinnati R3 : Murray v Chardy
« on: August 15, 2012, 11:57 PM »
Have been out of the country recently but noted that Chardy has beat Tsonga and Roddick over the last few weeks, so he's obviously playing some decent stuff.
Might be a stiffer test than Querrey, but if Murray is healthy, he is just too good right now. Murray in 2.

Chardy's star seems to be rising again after dull season in 2011. Funnily enough at a time when the other Frenchmen are not in form, or are injured.
Andy should have no problem, he has a 4-0 H2H all on hard court.

He's done well to get this far considering he got knocked out in qualifying by Fognini!
I wasn't paying attention in 2011 but I noticed that Chardy was outside the top 100. He reached the semis of one of the Russian ATP's (losing to Troicki) and won in the Noumea challenger at the start of the year. Reached a couple of semis on the clay ATP 250's and as you say, has now beaten Tsonga and Roddick in successive weeks. Will gain another 106 points this week (minimum, although we all hope maximum). With enough withdrawals (four, by my count, and Nadal and probably Monfils already out) he may even be seeded for the USO.
Anyway, yes, another in-form player who's had a very up and down couple of years. Followed a similar path to Querrey actually. Totally different type of player though. Andy should have few problems.

Sorry that I wasn't around for the Querrey match but I was watching it and getting ready for work at the same time.
Andy has a great record vs French players - may have only lost
the once to two
four (and counting) players but I can't find the stat that supports that.
Anyhow, H2H below.

Chardy has won only 1 set off Andy and that too went to a TB so obviously it's no threat.

Tsonga (AO 2008) and Gasquet (three occasions)?

Oh I know, was just speculating. Are those the only two he's lost to?

Yep, I think he really does have a great record vs French players. Where's a good stat person when you need one!

Not sure that Chardy's win over JWT last week meant much as the latter would have been jet lagged and recovering from Olympics where he played dubs the final weekend. Sounds like Andy played really well yesterday so shouldn't pose too much of a problem I'd have thought. I see in usual fashion they've scheduled Andy for hottest part of day - probably just before 6 BST?
Nice avatar adb - still awaiting my stamps

Maybe it's recently then
So it's 4 players then? How many times has he played a french player then?
