Well, folks, I am just back from first night of Aberdeen Cup. It's the first time I've ever seen live tennis, and let me tell you it is way, way better live than on telly.
First match up was Jamie Murray -v- David Sherwood. Sherwood looked far too strong, but once Jamie settled into the match he played some great tennis. He is a fantastic volleyer and I can't wait to see him in the doubles tomorrow. I really enjoyed watching him play.
Next up were the young girls. Scotland's Joanna Henderson was far too strong for England's Claire Sawyer, and really it was a shame it was not even a fair contest.
Next up Elena Baltacha outclassed her opponent Kate O'Brien. Baltacha (I hope that's how you spell it) was very impressive.
Then.... up came our Andy and Rusedski. Andy did not look himself at all. He went all out for a ball quite early on in the match and it was clear that he had injured his back. I have to say that one thing I took away from the match tonight was a much better liking of Greg Rusedski. I think I have misjudged him. He came across very well and really entered into the spirit of the tournament.
NOW..... last but not least. I hung around (as did lots of others) after the matches and managed to catch Andy coming off court. I asked him to sign my flag, which he did, and I asked him if his back injury had occurred going for the ball early in the match (cos I thought I'd seen him strain pretty badly early on), and he said 'yeah that's right'. I said 'hope you're ok for tomorrow and he grinned and said 'yeah it'll be fine' ... and then I gave him a pat on the back and said 'great year andy, all the best for 2006' and he grinned and said 'thanks'.
OMG it all sounds so inane, but, well, I don't have to tell you lot how that conversation felt...

That face, that grin... he looks so good in the flesh girlies.... really tall and phwoar.... those eyes!!
Here are some piccies I took:
(Just re-read this and have edited to make more sense! It was a bit garbled due to high excitement when posting last night!)
