I'm still hoping that Marray will play with Fleming so that Andy isn't expected to play 3 days running.  Then makes sense to drop Ward and put Evans in as 2nd singles players.  After all Marray and Fleming are a dubs partnership who have been doing rather well.

I hope so too Ruthie.  I read somewhere that Marray is carrying a slight injury which may explain the question over whether he will play. The good news is he's there so fingers crossed.

Considering that Evans just beat 2 top players in Tomic and Nishikori it would be very strange not to pick him over Ward. Has Ward beaten any top 50 players this year?

Ward did beat Tursunov (now ranked 32, though not as high then I think) at the DC tie in April. He had match points v Dodig at Queens in a 3 tie-break match. And I think he's played more on clay than Dan. I was only questioning though, because people seemed to be assuming Dan will play.

Colin & Jonny have been doing well, but Colin had his best result ever when he played with Andy in August, and reached the finals in Montreal. If Marray is injured that's obviously another thing to consider. Dodig of course is part of a top doubles team, though won't be with his usual partner, Melo.

So plenty for Leon to think about - but he's brilliant, so I'm very happy to trust his judgement. Good luck to them. Wish I was there! Anybody from MW going? There seem to be quite a few fans going from what I've seen on twitter etc.

If that was in order of importance from right to left, I would feel disgusted for Andy.

Leon is captain, so it's left to right! lol

In reality, they'll have twigged that Dan's a bit short compared to Andy, so he was encouraged to stand on the top step.  Embarassed

heard on radio that Andy has to decide by 11am whether he will play dubs as well as singles.  This is because the draw takes place at noon and so Leon will have to finalise his team before that (and if Andy says no, Leon will have to put Marray in in place of one of the other singles players).  So sounds as though it's Andy's call.

Asking Andy to play three 5 set matches on clay within days of his return from America, strikes me as complete madness,if you also expect him to be in Tokyo on Sept 30th.
This Davis Cup set up was intended for countries with many top class players to choose from Although we are improving we will still be too reliant on one man
I was amazed to discover that the  question of who will host a DC tie depends an who was tje host the last time the teams met, even if it was 50 years ago. So as a result we see players,in the middle of the hard court season expected to perform on clay. The whole thing needs reorganising

It's fine as it is.

Surfaces these days are all slow anyway so there's not really much of a difference between USO surfaces and Clay courts.

^^ Nadal and Djoko are both expected to play on clay, in their home countries, just 4 days after the USO final - so time difference and change of surface to cope with.

Hopefully Andy will win his matches in 3!

Davis Cup ‏@DavisCup 30s
Great Britain v Croatia draw: Coric v Murray, Dodig v Evans, Dodig/Pavic v Murray/Fleming, Dodig v Murray, Coric v Evans

Wow - Andy plays 16 year old USO boys champ who has had less time to adjust to different time zone and surface!
