Courage doesn't always roar - but wins Wimbledon

To be fair about the vest, Andy was wearing it as far back as Australia. I noticed it when he was playing Federer in the semi's there. I wondered about his back in New York though, especially when he was playing Flo Mayer and his fsp was down to 32%.

I really hope Andy doesn't play the dubs unless he really has to, but I can see the sense in him playing if it looks like the tie can be over and done in three matches.

Croatia is throwing young Coric in at the deep end aren't they? Never played a five set match or Davis Cup and he is due to play the world no.3. That will probably be one heck of a learning experience.

yes an ongoing back problem, which is aggravated by playing on clay.   Hadn't noticed the vest at W final must admit so I guess you're right on that one.  Anyway the hope is that it's ok at present given he's opted to play all 3 matches, if necessary.
Now they know what the problem is I am sure they will work out a way to deal with it on clay. After what happened in Rome this year. I think Andy is more wiser and won't risk it if he is truly hurt.

I think he was wearing the vest at Queen's as well.  I know it is not quite as bad but I have had a bad back and hips of 15 years but still managed to long distance horse riding as long as I wore my back support.  I managed rides of up to 40 miles in a day.   My back has not become any worse but the hips have and I am now awaiting my 2nd hip replacement.  Backs can be managed.  I am sure they would be very careful of his back as he has so many more years to play.

Andy Murray "If I'm needed on Saturday [in the doubles], I'll play."

Croatia's Borna Coric "Andy [Murray] is a great player, one of the best...I like his style of tennis."

Interviews on Davis Cup live blog. Andy at 12.06, Coric at 12.14.

Interesting -

Russell Fuller ‏@russellcfuller 6m
Andy Murray says he thinks the Davis Cup should become a 'mandatory event.' More details from 7pm tonight on @bbc5live

He believes top players are forced into skipping ties because 'we don't have much flexibility in our schedule at all.'

Murray is saying he would like the Davis Cup to be given greater weight - so he could play more ties at the expense of  smaller ATP events

Don't take the word 'mandatory' too literally as clearly players can't be forced to play an event they might not be selected for .

but the sentiment is that he feels the top players should be allowed to prioritise Davis Cup without it affecting their ranking

and here's the BBC story about what Andy said about making DC mandatory (together with a rather nice pic of our man)  And pleased to read he's not been pushing himself too hard in training this week, even if he did start Sunday evening, which must have been pretty soon after he arrived

Asking Andy to play three 5 set matches on clay within days of his return from America, strikes me as complete madness,if you also expect him to be in Tokyo on Sept 30th.
This Davis Cup set up was intended for countries with many top class players to choose from Although we are improving we will still be too reliant on one man
I was amazed to discover that the  question of who will host a DC tie depends an who was tje host the last time the teams met, even if it was 50 years ago. So as a result we see players,in the middle of the hard court season expected to perform on clay. The whole thing needs reorganising

According to the rules Leon cn change doubles team up to 15 mins after the last singles finishes tomorrow.  I think if Danny can pull off a win against Dodig he may change it to Fleming / Marray otherwise why replace Ward with a doubles player.
