Davis Cup : Croatia vs GB

Happy it's not Spain but the USA is still tough. Andy should beat Isner/Querrey but the doubles point will be hard with the Bryans playing. Though maybe Dan or James can get a win in the singles - James has beaten Querrey before.

Prob suit Andy. Doesn't he normally head stateside straight after oz open anyway?

I am just relieved it's not Spain, Serbia or the Czech Republic. Whilst Mr M should be ok and have a good chance regardless of who his opponent might be, I think the others have worked hard enough to deserve a tie, they have got a fighting chance with. The Bryan Bros are beatable - didn't Jamie M and John P beat them earlier this year?

^ I think Jamie and John did get a win over the Bryans. I can't recall when, but I don't think it was too long ago.

It definitely could have been worse. Spain would have been awkward. They would have picked clay for sure. I'm glad we avoided Serbia too, and I wouldn't have been keen on the Czech Republic.

It's a shame it's away really, it would have been a great tie to have here at home, but never mind. The tie is in February isn't it, I didn't catch if they said an exact date because I had an emergency with my neighbour, but would it be around Indian Wells or Miami time, or have I gone completely mad?

If we beat the USA, most likely the next tie will be at home!

Can't face France unfortunately.

Possible ties next round are Italy (away) or Argentina (home). Most likely it will be Argentina, if Delpo plays, they could probably win the tie without him, but it would be a struggle especially considering Fognini and Seppi  are solid top 30 players, and Argies only Juan Monaco JUST in the top 30, although Berlocq always performs in DC.

Oh, I thought someone mentioned France on the other thread. I wasn't watching the draw that closely. Thanks for putting me right Smile.

Piers Newbery ‏@piersnewbery 2h

GB away to USA in 2014 @DavisCup. Tough but could be worse. Where to get the 3rd point against Isner, Querrey & the Bryans? 31 Jan - 2 Feb.

Andy Murray ‏@andy_murray 1h

@piersnewbery do we go into the tie with a 2 zero head start? Or are you just assuming beating 6ft 10 guy with rocket serve is a given?

Jonathan Marray has experience beating the Bryans, i'm sure they were one of the teams he and his partner beat to win Wimbledon in 2012

Yes, he & Neilson did beat the Bryans at Wimbly.

I don't know the back story - but why was Jonny not involved in DC ties earlier? He turned pro in 2000.
I wondered if he was happier coming in under the radar to get the great win at Wimbledon on the grass; and maybe he's not so confident in high pressure circumstances on eg clay.
Maybe in Croatia Colin felt more confident playing with Andy instead?
And then of course, Ross is hoping to be back in January. D.V.

We're lucky with having a number of good doubles players - but I don't think it's quite so straightforward for Leon to decide.

Surface? I saw someone on twitter predicting clay but I doubt that since it's both Isner and Querrey's weakest surface.

I can't see them not choosing hard courts.
