The first tie of the 2014 Davis Cup has arrived for the British team. Andy Murray is the leading man of the team, and he kicks off proceedings in San Diego against Donald Young. Donald Young is a late entrant into the United States team after John Isner was deemed not fit to play due to an arm injury sustained sometime before the Australian Open, where he retired in the first round. Murray and Young have met three times in the past, with Andy leading the head to head 2:1, Young's only win coming at Indian Wells in 2011.

The Donfather has all the talent in the world and could have been a slam champ, but instead his little brain made him a bit of a chump. However he is slowly finding his form again and test Ferrer in Auckland this year before making the 3rd round in the AO.

Agreed Tessie - defo ankle injury which he picked up at the start of the season.

Play starts at 11am San Diego time, and Andy doesn't normally like playing early matches, but I'm not expecting the catastrophe of IW 2011!  He's beaten Young comfortably on two occasions since then, but I will heed Proddy's words and so, taking everything into consideration, including Andy's tendency for slow starts, have gone for Andy in 4.  The one good thing though is that, from what I've read, conditions on court should be comfortably warm at that time.

Andy, fairly comfortably in three I reckon. I didn't know Young has never played DC before. Could be a bit overwhelming.

The only reason Andy lost to Young at IW in 2011 was because he was still low after losing out to Djokovic in the AO final. If I remember right Andy lost to Bogomolov Jnr in Miami the same year.

I remember it well Ruthie. At that point I hadn't long got Sky Sport, so I had a lot more chance to see the tennis than on terrestrial TV. Watching Andy looking so low, almost as if he wanted to be anywhere but on a tennis court for a while, was almost painful. Still, he rebounded in style Smile.
