To pull himself out of this and win the match would show how far he's gone towards improvement.

Not really. He's won matches like this in the past. It's more worrying that he's back to being sucked into a match like this. Maybe a sign of improvement if he survives it and wins the tournament!

I must add the other guy is playing very well, no doubt encouraged by Andy's errors.

What is this?! It really has been pathetic how much he's imploded here. Can we get Lendl to go to every tournament, please?

There's so little room for error now that, with him playing the way he's playing, I'm quite sure he will lose.

His 2nd serve stats were abysmal- 29% won. Just not good enough. Andy needs to be able to impose himself more in matches, particularly early round matches. You dont see the top three engaged in this type of muggery often, if at all in early rounds. Is it so hard to maintain full concentration for the space of a two set match?

I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Yes, he still is a mopey teenager, and his attitude is poor at times. But he'll probably win this match. He usually finds a way to pull it together when he needs to. It might take a defeat in a match like this to make him snap out of it, though.

Yes...but Andy is always involved in scrappy matches like this at the outset of a lot of tournaments that he plays. Just this year, he lost sets in first rounds both at Brisbane and AO. Yes, some of it can be attributed to surface attenuation, but a lot of fault can be found with his attitude...can look so complacent and lackadaisical at times which in turns gives opponents hope.
