Excellent draw at Thai Open

Quote

Andy has drawn the Swiss George Bastl in the first round, who he has beaten before. Sweet revenge for the Davis Cup loss?

Indoor hardcourt according to the ATP website. That's the limit of my knowledge I'm afraid.

Does Soderling play serve volley?

I suspect I have seen him playing this style but it might have been a grass court match so I wondered if anyone knows what his natural game is?

His best results appear to come on faster surfaces.

George Bastl tends to play serve volley. And from what I've seen Andy quite likes playing opponents who use that style.

He's equally happy on all surfaces and adapts well. Would be a difficult opponent for Andy, but aren't they all at this level? At this juncture you can say goodbye if he meets Ginepri...but he's not far off surprising another high ranked player on his quest to the top.

Ginepri is scary!!  Frown  but Andy would make a terrific opponent in a bid to thrash Ginepri! : Good luck to him, he's got a good chance to finally seal matters with the Swiss!

Shock  I'm still gobsmacked at Ginepri's sudden blossoming. I always regarded him as a "journeyman" Good, but nothing spectacular.

The US Open knocked that view on it's head didn't it?

Andy,

Stay out of the girly-bars in Bangkok, else everything will go horribly wrong.  I will not lower the tone of this excellent website with terrible puns about balls being played with off the court or anything, but beware!

Go-go bars in Patpong will not help in the quest for the top 100.... return after you retire!

Best wishes....

He will definitely play Soderling in the next round (if he beats Bastl). Soderling beat Vik 46 61 62

Bangkok is around 7 hours ahead of us (GMT) and the first match starts at 12 noon local time, so I make it that Andy should be on court around 7 or 8 am Tuesday, our time, taking into account that the first match may take 2 hours. There will have to be a hours adjustment, as we are still in BST, but that part of it leaves me confused. Maybe someone else can give us the exact timing.
