Favourite Andy Point?
« on: March 29, 2012, 12:41 PM »
Similar to favourite Andy match, but what's your favourite Andy point of all time?
Obviously there's millions to choose from but there must be a few particularly notable ones that will always stick in your mind, be it for the comedy value, pure brilliance of the point or the moment of the match. The trick shot against Ljubicic at Wimbledon '11, some of the points in that bizarre game against Llodra AO '12, the "arrogant" flick against Querrey when chasing the lob Queens '09, THAT shot against Gasquet Wimbledon '08, and many, many others.
For me, personally, it's these two against Cilic in the Australian Open semi-final '10. The first one was the turning point in the match without a doubt, the second one is possibly the greatest shot I've ever seen Andy make:
What's your most memorable point?

Well, you killed the thread with the second shot, it's the best shot he's hit on a tennis court.
End of discussion.

Great thread to start up this one, though I agree with Sir Panda that the Cilic one is Andy's finest shot (so far)! The others mentioned are all worthy contenders too though. There were quite a few from the demolition of Rafa in Tokyo last year as well, the 3rd set that day was definitely the best set of tennis I've seen from Andy, especially given the quality of opposition. I've got a soft spot for the one against Gasquet at Wimbledon, just before that shot an idiot in the crowd shouted 'C'mon Gasquet, win it for England' and it fired Andy up big time. For all that I recognise that Andy needs to reign in his emotions at times I do like it when he is pumped up and vocal after a great / important shot. It would be brilliant if anyone posts any moments of greatness that have kind of been forgotten about. Of course Andy's greatest ever shot will ultimately be the one that delivers his first slam!

I think that Gasquet shot you mention is in these highlights - I can't find it on it's own.

As someone who struggles to remember significant matches, trying to remember individual points is asking too much!

You will remember this one TD.. just a couple of days ago. I posted this on another thread, but it's worth repeating here. Forget the result and just appreciate the brilliance.
Outrageous shot! More please Andy!

Well yeah, I remember them once I start watching them, but will I remember it this time tomorrow? Unlikely. The only shot that comes to mind without the aid of videos is that one where he went round the side of the net. I think I remember that one because, at the time, I didn't realise you were allowed to do that and it surprised me.

Like TD this is asking alot of my fading memory. But I certainly remember that one against Cilic and the lion's roar after it - most certainly a turning point.

scot, I think that shot was pure instinct, and how fabulous he is when it's instinct with no time to over-think, which I believe is Andy's problem sometimes
