According to Roger the courts are playing slower than last year and no reward for big hitting this probably makes Ferrer even more of a favourite than he already was to begin with.
The other day, when he was asked by Mary Carillo on the courtside after the 3rd round match as to why he’s struggling so much here, he said it was the blue clay, travelling back and forth etc. that threw him slightly off. What utter nonsense if you think about how he practically bragged about the blue stuff right after he won it and how it wasn’t playing anything different and now suddenly it threw him off.
Which brings me to your post AK, if what Federer had said is true, then the courts aren’t playing slower than last year but the fact that, the blue clay played much faster and now, he’s having trouble adjusting the slightly slower surface here at RG. In other words, the surface isn’t playing any slower than last year. It’s been the same and it has been any different, many players would have spoken up by now.
