Am I the only person who thinks Andy fought hard today?
I didn't expect a win.. I expected a fight, and I think Andy fought well against a well respected and excellent clay-court grafter.
For sure, there were errors...but this was Andy on clay, with an injury...
My personal expectations were met.
As long as Andy continues in this fight, I'm in the ring with him!

sotnadian you can pretend Andy was injured if you want. Do that if it makes you feel better. But in my honest opinion Andy was 100% fit today.

I am increasingly of the opinion that the majors are not totally decided on talent. Just looking at NJ and Nadal makes me suspicious. Either they are super human or there are other factors involved. Murray's defeat by Ferrer today, was in my opinion a case of the best player on the day winning. Tsongas defeat by NJ and the massacre we can predict for Ferrer against Nadal, are/will not be in my considered opinion. Tsonga may have "chocked" in that match, but I think there was more going on than that. NJ's reaction did not seem normal to me. Just out of curiosity we have not heard anything about Nadal's purportedly completely trashed knees. They seem to be "magically" better - again.  As before it is only my opinion, but as a scientist, I don't believe in NJ's invincibility - particularly as it seems to have arisen only in the last few years.

Well said Scotnadian - he tried his heart out and all with a dodgy back and took a set from a player than no-one else in the tournament had taken a set from.  One of these days it will all fall into place and there will be no stopping our boy!

Nole lost to Meltzer in the quarters at the French in 2010 and went on to win the next 4 out of 8 Majors.

You're a glass half-full guy, aren't you?

Andy interview here... contrary to press reports, sounds like he's still on for Queens.  Hope so...

You got an 'in' with Andy Ireland we don't know about Pinnochio?
However... giving you the benefit of the doubt, because you said you were giving an honest opinion, what makes you say that?
I'm not yanking your chain... this is a serious question.

Yes he fought hard but I honestly I think he thought he could not win today.

I can see why he would try to play aggressive tennis but today Andy played lights out aggressive tennis with little variety save the second set.

The french was not a realistic possibility anyway so  Shrug

Not really just pointing out the way sport works.

I was there in Indian Wells where he played the worst I have ever seen him play and the next tournie he goes on to the final.

Because I watched the whole match and his movement was not constrained in any way.

And tennis is not a game you can play properly if you have an injury. It must be the most physically demanding sport there is. You use all your muscles. Do you think Andy can run around like a road-runner for 3 hours and smack massive serves/forehands/backhands if he isn't in top condition. I suspect you confuse a niggle for an injury. Like Nadal's knees. Not long ago people were saying his career was over but he's like a whirling dervish on court, probably the fittest guy on the planet!

Aww Craig, I remember how gutted you were, and how we sent love your way. hug... and I think you drove for hours and slept in your car?..only to watch a flat and seemingly disinterested Andy, I think?

No today Andy gave everything he had until his last service game.

Since the second round for me everything has been a bonus and in 4 weeks time I honestly expect Andy to have won his first ever Grand Slam Trophy.
