FO R2: Murray vs Nieminen
« on: May 30, 2012, 01:43 AM »
Andy has navigated the 1st round and now faces Jarkko Nieminen in R2.
The last time these 2 met, a certain lady was watching
I wonder if she'll be watching again (in the UK of course, some party or something going on for her)
H2H to follow.

Thanks Linda - had it on my computer at work
He looks so relaxed and happy to meet her.
And what he had to say about it afterwards:-
"I think for all the players, it's probably a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us," Murray said of meeting the Queen.
"I'm sure everyone thought it was a great occasion. I don't know whether she'll be coming in the next few years but I definitely enjoyed it."
Found these on You Tube
H2H as promised - sorry, pictures not brilliant but I followed my lead from Jarkko and at least he doesn't look like he's wearing lipstick, like he does on the ATP Tour website!

That video Andy bowing to the Queen is priceless. So very cute. I love the Queen. She's so adorable.
Anyway, hope Andy plays at the same time as today. That will give me some chance to watch him live.
And 1 match down. So far...not so bad.

I read that she doesn't like tennis.

I don't think she does. And as a republican I really don't care! But just had the thought that the pressure on Andy at Wimbledon this year could be even more intense coming so soon after the Jubilee, as bound to be talk about a Brit winning in Jubilee Year. Oh dear, poor Andy
Anyway hope Andy has a comfortable, calm match tomorrow.

No, horse racing more her style.
Such a special moment for Andy though.

I think that the last time a Brit won Wimbledon it was in a jubilee year - Virginia Wade in the year of the silver jubilee. If I remember right, the Queen was there to present the trophy. Would be great if history could repeat itself this year!

Why did the Queen visit Wimbledon in 2010, she never did during the Tim Henman years?

She would have attended the year before had Andy made it to the final but was turfed out by Roddick. The news article I found says that she does have an interest in tennis and is a patron of Wimbledon. Maybe she'll get the chance sooner rather than later.

I think you're right - even more pressure then. Wasn't Wimby celebrating some anniversary in 2010 which is why she went and she was travelling on the finals weekend? But can't remember for sure.

Courier was v. interesting about Andy today. He said just b4 AO semi Lendl was on the practise court with Andy encouraging him to hit ferocious forehands. Perhaps this, and second serve, are the main focus. Hope so.
Courier also said Andy had
"plenty he can improve."
This was just music to my ears.
