What I have been saying all day Aileen, if he had pulled out yesterday he would have been slated but by playing on he got just as much grief. Think he just needs to ignore it all, do what is best for him and his health and let his tennis do the talking either tommorow or in a few weeks.

Good luck Andy whatever you decide.

Touch the sky - and touch it he did.

I'm hoping Andy will pull out if he's still suffering the effects of the back spasm, especially as it's another early match and so he won't have had too much time to loosen up.  Another match like yesterday we could all do without, and that goes for him as well.  However he seems to be determined to play and the predicted hot sunny weather should help.   Also I can just see the catty comments if he withdraws - he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

As for playing on court 1 - even if it does seem a bit of a snub, it could be to Andy's advantage as he might feel less pressure.
Not sure if playing on court 1 necessarily means less pressure but perhaps the injury itself does.  There's an interesting interview with Ivan Lubicic [sorry I know wrong spelling but having a senior moment] on bbc tennis website which says as much and where he also says he has experienced muscle spasms and Andy was right to play on because they do pass and there is no long term damage from doing so.

Deja Vu from last year. We were all saying the same thing after the injury versus Berrer. I don't think anyone thought he could go on to play the rest of the tournament and then Queens and Wimbledon. So I think we all over react and worry unnecessarily. Bottom line is, Andy demolished a top 50 player yesterday.  If Andy think he's fit to play he is fit to play.

In fact last year Andy was taking pain killers for his ankle for weeks after. I think he was still taking them at Queens. Point being Andy knew he wouldn't do long term damage playing with that injury. Same thing this year. He knows what he is doing.

Like any right minded person I could not believe the rubbish VW spoke yesterday - did she just feel like a change from her sycophantic praise of Roger? I have wondered if the pundits are on a bonus from RG for the most innovative words of praise. Just heard a cracker from Greg R
“How many great coaches are there? You could probably name 5 or 6 on one hand” No comments needed there then!
I think we should have a thread devoted to memorable comments, humorous or otherwise. I picked up some gems from Courier during Niemenins collapse - mentally hes in the toilet - he needs to get the lights on in the home office - hes got noone to talk to but the demons in his head. Everyone a gem!!  Yoda

I like that idea!  We need something like that for the next few weeks.  Do you know how to open a thread?

Very true what you say about last year, and I also seem to recall the "drama queen" being mentioned although not in such a big way as this time.  If he feels he can play then a match against a player like Giraldo could be just what he needs - not, I may say, that I'm taking anything for granted.  Like all the rest of the lower-ranked players Giraldo could well hit a purple patch and make his life difficult.

Looking at 11 pm+ for me tonight, so not too bad a time and it is Sunday tomorrow, and a lie in.

Hopefully the match will be covered on tv - I'd like to know what the Aussie comms think yes

Jonathan Overend BBC tennis correspondent at Roland Garros, Paris

Court four at Roland Garros was a popular destination on Friday as Andy Murray hit the practice court for the first time since Thursday's drama. Hitting with Brazilian doubles player Marcio Torres and coach Ivan Lendl, Murray showed no obvious ill-effects from his back muscle spasm. He looked a little stiff as he bent over to pick up loose tennis balls but generally looked so much better than during the Nieminen match.

Also from the beeb

If he manages to beat Colombia's world number 50 Giraldo, 25-year-old Murray would meet Tommy Haas or Frenchman Richard Gasquet, his conqueror at the Italian Open, in the last 16.

Did I just hear Virginia Wade correctly on Eurosport a minute ago?  I thought she said that she hopes Andy's over that "nervous episode, and his fear, because that's what it really is?"

Did she really say that?

Eh?

Is she mad?

The one thing he didn't have in that match was fear.  Seems like she's being negative just for the sake of it.
