I'm hoping the later the match the better for Andy's back as the sun warms things up. He just needs to make sure it doesn't stiffen up while waiting but shouldn't teach his physio to suck eggs.

Jonathan Overend, BBC tennis correspondent at Roland Garros:
"Murray hit for half an hour on Court One and seemed to be in much better shape than two days ago. He was thumping his forehand and striking some fierce serves. There was no obvious sign of discomfort. Although he didn't play any points, I think it's fair to say he slept in a less awkward position than two nights ago."

Sounds more positive on the back. I expect him to beat Giraldo come what may. The fun starts v Gasquet in the next round. If he isn't nearly 100% by then it will be over and out.
This is all about gauging his level of competitiveness.

Did you know. Andy has only retired once. In 646 matches. Wow. Thats some statistic. He's so dedicated. Such strength and courage. You got to admit the guy has guts.

Did I just hear Virginia Wade correctly on Eurosport a minute ago? I thought she said that she hopes Andy's over that "nervous episode, and his fear, because that's what it really is?" Did she really say that? Eh? Is she mad?  For those of you not old enough to remember VW's playing days she was the most nervous player on the circuit. I only ever saw tennis at Wimbledon in those days but she shook and choked on every court she played on - she was more famous for that than for her tennis. |

I wonder how Virginia feels now that it's her that's received criticism in the papers? Definitely a nicer feeling to dish it out then to receive it I guess...
Enjoying the ITV coverage though, very balanced and fair to the players.

Poor old Andy. On one side he's despised by the cucumber sandwich brigade and on the other, the pork pie munchers from the terraces hate him just as much. They still haven't got over the out of context "anyone but England" remark and probably never will. They also mistake the fact that he is not a performing seal for the press as a sign that he is humourless and surly. I would say he he has far more character and humour than blow dried celebrities like Federer but you have to look to see it.
