If the same Andy was from another country, let’s say US or Canada, then I don’t believe a lot of Murray fans now would be his fan.

But this is very hypothetical and can’t be proven but I stand by my comment anyway.

It is what it is right now so let's leave it at that.

I see you are still saying 'a lot', when this thread proves the opposite........so I too stand by my comment! And just for the record, if I was already a tennis fan when Andy appeared on the scene, I would have supported him just like I do Tsonga, Baggy and Lopez.......even if he was from Mars........ so let's leave it at that!

Really interesting question the answer probably yes, but not in the same way.

I never supported Henman, as British as he was! I supported the likes of Moya, Hewitt, Agassi, Enqvist, and Blake pre 2005. None of whom were British.

But i've never felt as deeply for a player as I have Murray and I think him being British has a big part to play in that, the extensive media coverage of his matches the 'bias' of the commentary towards Andy all subconsciously adds to 'our' involvement in Andy's career. I've never been so invloved in tennis since Andy and I wonder if i ever will be again when he finally retires?

I wonder about that too.  The initial tennis addiction that came along with my support of Andy has recently started to ease off and I'm now only watching his matches.  Really don't want to think about the tour without him.
