No, that's not it for 2013. Paris and WTF are in doubt, he may be back by then.

I've just sat watching the Wimbledon final again and came on in a bit of a high. To say I'm shocked by this news is an understatement. I honestly didn't see it coming. I hope anyone who ever doubted the injury is happy now.

The most important thing is that Andy does what is right now. He obviously wants the back injury resolved if possible, and God willing it will be. It will be a shame if he can't make the WTF, and obviously missing out on Asia is a shame, but Andy needs to get right. He can think about playing and rankings etc when he is fit again.

On the bright side of things, look at what Andy has done with the injury. If he can get himself injury and pain free things could get very exciting indeed, but obviously he needs to get himself right first.

I admit that it didn't come as much of a surprise me.  When I saw the winces of pain during the DC tie, and knowing that he had had to have a back specialist on his team for Wimbledon and Montreal, etc, I had a gut feeling that something was going to give and that sooner rather than later.

Indeed.  And Miss Wade should hang her head with shame after calling him a drama queen last year at the FO.

Miss Wade needs to go get laid... her Andy sniping is just a manifestation of her bitterness coz she got $50 + a mars bar for winning the ladies singles and Andy has earned a tidy sum.. lol

Very glad that Andy has chosen to take the time out to correct his back problem. Its been obvious to me since the Oz Open final this year that the prob was getting worse. The grass season he got through with the aid of pain killers... for hard court and clay the pain killers were not enough I reckon.

The mental rest will be good for him too.

My concern is that back surgery is rarely simple and without risk. Fingers crossed it is successful and his rehab is as quick as possible. It is a critical time in his career.

If it fixes the issue...and he gets full mobility...something he hasnt had for a long time.... lookout Nadal and Djoko... Muzza is commin to getcha!!

The Aus Open was always what I wanted Andy to concentrate on. He has been to three finals, it can only be a matter of time he wins one. Let it be 2014, then he will have 3 out of the 4, + Gold.

Fully agree with that sentiment Aileen.  It was a completely unwarranted slur upon a world class athlete, and I can no longer listen to her and consider her opinions to have any authority.  She should come out publicly and apologise, then perhaps my opinion of her would be raised a notch.

Seems like the media have made up their minds that he is definitely out for rest of season. Every single radio report and news article are saying he's out for WTF. Even though Andy's team have only said ATM he's missing next 3 tournaments.

I think Andy is owed a few apologies to be honest. Comms have casually trotted out a line about Andy holding body parts, hips and such, for a while, as if he is either faking it or the issue is in his head. Even Mark Petchey, as supportive of Andy as he is, has come out with stuff at times. At the USO, during the match with Flo Mayer, Petch implied Andy was being melodramatic. VW may well be the worst, but I don't think she's the only one who should feel some remorse now.

The issue for some with Andy is that he has never said exactly what the injury is, so pundits and such have made light of it. If he'd gone into explicit detail about the injury the pundits would have said he was giving away too much. Andy couldn't win either way.

For me the point is that Andy has consistently said he has a back injury. He has never confused the issue with contradictory statements or used it as an excuse. He deserves such a lot of respect for what he has achieved with the injury. I'm sure that if he can get the issue resolved once and for all, he will be as driven as ever to achieve much more.
