I love all your answers, keep them going!
@ Teejay , I tried to write it in the 'how are you feeling'-thread' but agree totally with you:  but there was just something about the way he played. The shot-making, the ability to read the game, to drive an opponent a bit mental, was all there, right from the start.

Nice to read that so many of you are fan for such a long time, real fans, amazing!

2005 Queens or Wimbledon - I'm not sure which as I was working during the day to save up fees for my postgrad. First match I really remember is Roddick at Wimbledon 2006. I lost two Grandparents within a few weeks that summer and Andy's tennis was a bright spot in it. Incidentally my Grandpa died on July 8th that year, last year I spent it in floods of tears (if I'm being honest I was emotional before the match), this year I spent it grinning!

Radio interview after he won the USO juniors in 2004.

March 2005 when, at 17, he became the youngest British DC player ever, partnering David Sherwood against Israel's Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram, beating them in four sets, something which made quite a splash in the press.

The first time I saw him though was playing against Thomas Johansson at Queens, where he was beaten in three after cramping and then turning his ankle towards the end of the third.  I'll never forget the scrawny, shouting, tousled, red-headed kid that he was then.  Such a contrast to Henman who I'd also supported, but the bonus here was that Andy was Scottish.  I remember thinking that I was seeing something very special, and he reinforced that view later at Wimbledon.  I've followed him ever since, although until four years ago I didn't have the means of seeing all his matches live

Funny, i just posted in another thread today about this. I too heard about his junior US then as Aileen described above at Queens in 2005. Boy, they were the days. I remember my girlfriend took an instant dislike to his attitude but she sooner than later came round and we were both greetin like wee bairns at the end of the historic day!!

I came a little later to the party than lots of you dedicated guys n' gals (I'm jealous of your extra time spent on the Murraycoaster! Very Happy ). I first took an interest in him in 2008,but I'd say I didn't start really following him until 2009.I don't remember one match in particular that made me an Andy fan-he simply drew me in!

I didn't always get to see all of his matches though-I'm still a bit terrible with technology, but I'm a lot better than I used to be,so as I got better with the internet I got to see more of his matches over the years.Finding streams has certainly become a lot easier since I found this place though-sometimes it would take me ages and ages to find working ones,so thanks for all your help guys!In fact, thanks for making the experience of being an Andy fan even better than it was-sharing the experience with other people who feel the same as me has made it so much more enjoyable (and easier to handle the defeats) than it was when I didn't know anyone else who was a fan! hug

I got swept up in Henmania and followed him and Greg a lot. Then I started looking for the future British prospects and first read about Andy when he won the Orange Bowl, age 12.

I didn't hear his name at all after that until I saw him play in one of the rounds of the 2004 Wimbledon Juniors. I became a full-time Murray follower after he won the US juniors.

I googled 'scottish tennis players' and came up with 3 1/2 players ...one of the them was called Andy Murray.

Neah.... saw an article on him when he was a young kid playing in the scottish open... followed him since then.

1st time I saw him play a full pro atp match.... I thought wow this boy can seriously play well for his age and clearly he had that winners ingredient that I had never seen a British tennis player possess before. The only doubt I had in my mind was the result of years and years of mediocre british players being overhyped by Uk media....probably why all the spectators looked as stunned as Andy when he won Wimbledon.

My interest in tennis was basically, Wimbledon - mainly because pre-internet, that's all there was to watch. I remember reading a couple of 1/2 inch reports in the inside back pages of the papers about these Scottish boys called Murray who seemed to be winning some matches. The idea of there being Scots who could play tennis at all was a bit of a novelty but when I heard of Andy's junior USO win, It dawned that ' this laddie must be no too bad', and my real interest began. It was great to see a real prospect come through, particularly as Tim Henman's career was coming to an end - Andy Murray was the pretender to the UK no.1 spot. I remember on Mock the Week, Frankie Boyle made the gag : ' It looks like the next British man to win Wimbledon's gonny be Scottish - and we don't give a **** !'  Aye, Frankie, if only you knew !

Thinking about Mock the Week, do you remember Andy was in the audience last year after the Wimbledon final and he was taking a wee bit of good-natured stick about the crying ?  It would be nice if they had him back now !

He would have been welcome!

Superb stuff from @andy_murray. We'll keep your traditional, post- final seats for you at the next Mock, Andy.

From Andy this evening
Just about to watch mock the week... Expecting to be mocked

It was recorded on Tuesday when he must have been shattered and probably didn't go anywhere. They're having fun in his absence though!
