As Federer has withdrawn from this exhibition tournament next week, there are reports that Andy might take his place, or even just one exhibition match possibly against Roddick.
Anyone got any news?

Some great opposition there. Good idea or not?

im not sure really, i dont think 3 matches against such quality opposition right before a slam is such a wise idea - which is probably why roger decided not to play this year, cos the roster isnt usually this good - but maybe one exo against roddick would be a good tune up.

It would be good to play a one-off match just down the road from the Oz Open, get used to the conditions in the city, etc. I agree though that any more than that would be overkill, I think he's done enough this last week. Better to finetune things in training rather than going overdoing it just before a Slam.

Thanks for the info Mollym. From what we're hearing from Jean in Australia about weather conditions, playing too strenuously before the Open does not seem a great idea but one tough warm-up session will be good preparation.
Keep us posted!

Great news. It should do both Andy and Arod some good.

It was raining overnight in Melbourne and it will apparently be 23 degrees tomorrow...

Pointless him playing someone like Querrey. Someone like Roddick would've been perfect.

Nice workout for Andy. He won 6-1 6-4 but did go 3-0 down in the 2nd.

Thanks for sharing Allan. That is good to know. It is a useful way for Andy to get used to the new condition without using up too much energy.
Did anyone watch how Andy played ? Did he continue to try out the new serve and volley techniques and move into the net at the right moment ?
