Latest News on Andy and Roland Garros

I get the impression that the question isn't "could Andy play?", rather "is it a good idea for him to play?"  That's a much trickier question.
Indeed - which is why I had hoped that at least one of the specialists would come up with a straightforward yea or nay answer.  Obviously this hasn't happened or I think we'd have heard something today instead of waiting until Andy and his team mull the matter over tomorrow.  Urrgh - I do so hate indecision!

Novak , Rafa & Fed have all been playing some mind games with their respective 'injuries' lately....it could well be that Andy knows he is OK to play RG but is letting his opponents guess whether he'll be there or not... and knock them selves out in the masters series.
It was interesting how he retired from his last match... was down and then upped his level drew level then quit. Winning a masters event on clay , I think, means more to us fans than it does to Andy. Its his weakest surface by a country mile... that bit is obvious. Why, then waste energy on the lead up matches? just put everything into the slam? Maybe it was more than injury he was preventing maybe it was avoiding playing Rafa or Novak until RG. The top guys dont all play well in the masters or lead up events... you cant be sure they are giving 100% until a slam.

Also, a lot is being made of Nadal's return in the media.... but he failed the most important test so far...the MC final v Djoko...Djoko demolished him. Nadal has had win as much as possible on clay because he knows he will struggle to win the big matches on the other surfaces for the remainder of the season..imo.

Andy does have legit back problems every clay season though....so of course there could be no mind games to this at all...and it just is what it is. The decision in the next day or so will tell all I guess.

Andy would be making a mistake to play RG, as it might have a detrimental effect on his Wimbledon chances. That has to be the BIG one. RG is not as important to Andy or to his miriad of fans world-wide, but especially in UK.

Yeah...Wimbledon is the top slam event ..and a good surface for Andy. However, reaching No1 is very much the goal for Andy... and playing all the slams is critical to his chances of achieving that this year.

If this is a genuinely serious injury , then of course ...he has to rest or even take time out to fix it. Either way...no RG then kiss goodbye to No1 chances this year I'd say.
